Author's Note[edit]

I am quite certain this is by no means medically accurate, and I would appreciate anyone who might take offense to consider that it is just an article for a game, and I do not mean to upset anyone. On to mechanical discussion, I fear this may be more crippling than any pre-existing flaw, what with some of the nasty diseases there are out there. If I have to make up some more mundane diseases to balance this, that might be one option, though I am open to other thoughts. -- Jota 04:52, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Table is now updated, and a small +2 bonus to Heal checks is the current small compensation for the flaw being more detrimental than most. It's non-standard, but I feel it's appropriate. -- Jota 05:28, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
It is a very crippling flaw to pick. That is not a great issue, because flaws are a voluntary drawback anyway, but still I think some homebrewed ailments would be a good idea. Perhaps a sprained ankle that impedes movement, or a couple of varieties of the common flu that do just 1d2 ability damage to mental stats. -- Iferius 18:27, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
I think you might need weaker diseases like you mentionned, or at the very least the right to a (scaling?) Will save of sorts. Also, you might also allow a few percents without disease. Some days, you might feel less anxious, no? -HarrowedMind (talk) 00:18, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Some of these might be extremely crippling if you're unlucky. Have you considered limiting the penalty to something like no more than -4 or -6? -- Eiji-kun (talk) 03:28, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
Better idea! Why bother with actual diseases? Make it "1d4or 6 to a random ability score each day, as a penalty" and not damage. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 03:33, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
Also basing it on a static saving throw means that the higher level you get, the more likely you just ignore the flaw completely. I'd go with -2 to a random attribute using a d8: 1 to 6 = corresponding stat, 7 = player chooses, 8 = no effect today. It compares to Unearthed Arcana/Pathetic but some days it might go in a primary stat, which could make it a whole lot worse, and other days it might have no effect at all. --Aarnott (talk) 17:07, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
