DC[edit]

Hrmmm, seems a bit MAD-ish. Perhaps str instead? --Ghostwheel 09:06, July 1, 2010 (UTC)

Let's say I have an ability that lets me crit an undead...[edit]

Could I suppress the undead's chi? The Dire Reverend 04:32, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

I'd say no, since they are still immune to crits, but if your DM said yes, it would be very easy to wrap the flavor around your finger to get it to happen. Negative energy flows through undead, animating them... you're suppressing that negative energy flow (chi) within them to do what the feat says. --Ghostwheel 05:43, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Would rewriting the feat such that it worked so long as you could crit the creature be an option? It seems like if you could crit a golem or a plant, you could suppress the magic or sap that otherwise would drive them as well. - Tarkisflux Talk 05:49, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Sure, if someone would like to do that, I've got no problems with it. I'm just surprised that someone actually is taking the feat--I hadn't seen any activity on it in forever. --Ghostwheel 08:20, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

So many many extraneous rolls for tiny incremental penalties, and all so that you can mimic a couple of scenes that don't even look like this.

Also, what Aarnott said.

I'd like to point out that there is unexplained rules here. So I can make touch attacks that deal no damage in place of a normal unarmed attack (this makes sense). Then my opponent can make a reflex save to... dodge it? First off, that seems strange right after a touch attack. Secondly (the unexplained part), there is no DC for the Reflex save. I'll assume you meant 10 + 1/2 char level + Wis mod.

I think we can agree that touch attacks hit pretty easily. So, let's assume that there is a 50% chance to save against a given Chi Suppression touch. Using a level 20 TWF monk build, here is what we can do:

5 flurry attacks, +3 TWF, +1 snap kick = 9 attacks. On average, -4.5 to attacks, skills, etc. and -22.5 ft. speed.

This may not seem super powerful, but the stacking suppression (even with the halving) means that the character should be able to have it stabilize around -9 to attacks and -45 ft. speed. I consider that effectively a stun-lock. Which is just not fun. Both for the monk that built this character and the DM getting combat slowed down whenever the monk engages.

I looked over this feat again--do you have any suggestion for doing something like this in a balanced/fun manner? --Ghostwheel (talk) 14:38, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
