On Spell Level[edit]
Why do you felt it would be a 3rd level spell? Just wondering --The bluez in the dungeon (talk) 18:38, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- Good question actually. [Light] descriptor spells are handled kinda funny. If I recall (and I may be wrong) is that daylight got shuffled (from 2nd) up to 3rd in 3.5e from 3.0e since the designers may have realized that there wasn't a way to counter the 3rd level deeper darkness spell in the SRD or something. Is swanlight comparable to daylight in that regard? Well, it's effectively a Mass Spell (3.5e Feat) light that lets each party member have their own flashlight that's much harder to dispel or counter than a cantrip light. Depending on caster level, it also generates a comparable amount of radius of light as well. If we're being picky because of that, it should be a 4th level spell. But, given that we're dealing with a cantrip here that's being amped up and all it does is make convenient lights, 3rd should be fine and fits in the existing design space along daylight, which still has its function of a wide radius that is centralized. I hope that answers your question. --Ganteka Future (talk) 19:20, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah it does, I was leaning more on it being a 2nd level spell, but your reasoning checks out so I think you've persuaded me. It definitely fills a niche which is very convenient. Mixed with Lightbending it could be very interesting.--The bluez in the dungeon (talk) 19:26, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
