Vindicator[edit]

He said he'd sooner let me take his head than surrender the staff. Look at his eyes, his cheeks, his mouth. You can still see the remnants of his surprise when I did.
—Pillus, halfling vindicator, The Rise and Fall of Maximus Castor

Sometimes a mage or cleric comes too close to the gods. When this happens, they make a vindicator to set him back down. Only the brawniest, most devoted servants of a god rise to strike down those that overstep the bounds of power.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Vindicator.

Divine Spell Resistance (Ex): In order to more easily set down those that have risen to challenge the gods, a vindicator is granted spell resistance of 5 + his character level. As he performs more services for his patron god he is granted greater protection. This spell resistance increases by 5 at each of his second, third, and fourth vindicator levels. Unlike regular spell resistance, suppressing divine spell resistance requires a 10 minute ritual. It remains suppressed until he resumes it with another ritual of similar length. When this ritual is complete, all spells or spell-like abilities affecting the vindicator and subject to spell resistance are dispelled. While he is affected by divine spell resistance, the vindicator may not cast spells or use spell-like abilities. Divine spell resistance does not extend to the vindicator's equipment or possessions.

Divine Spell Immunity (Ex): At 5th level, the vindicator's devotion has earned him the trust to perform the greatest services. His divine spell resistance is replaced by divine spell immunity. It functions in the same manner as his divine spell resistance, but cannot be overcome.

Ex-Vindicators[edit]

Vindicators that severely violate the philosophy of their patron deity, and those whose alignments change to be farther than one step from the patron deity's, lose their divine spell resistance and immunity, and cannot gain further levels in the vindicator class. A vindicator may regain these abilities and continue progression in the class if he atones.
