Contender[edit]

Here he is! the unbeatable, the invincible, the unchallenged CHAMPION!

Throughout the development of civilization, sport and competition have been a building block of society. Whether it is a friendly game, well-organized and disciplined profession or messy blood sports the contender takes it a step further. These individuals are drive by competition, glory and winning. A contender perfect her crafted like a swordsmith make a diamond cutting edge and turn their body into unbreakable solid steel.

A contender is unlike a typical combatant in that they usually focus on sport-like weapons and tactics, which are adapted for combat. They also gain the ability to earn a sponsor, which supports them and grants them special training. Overall a contender is a powerful and fearsome combatant with unique tricks and inspiring abilities to their arsenal.

Making a Contender[edit]

A contender is much like a fighter, with a higher focus on athleticism than pure combat skills. A well-trained contender is a force to be respected, as they possess the full fighting skill of their combative siblings alongside their own astounding tricks. That said, the contender class is versatile, they possess a large list of options which make fighting two different contenders a contrasting experience. The contender eventually gains access to a logo ability, a contender is capable of inspiring their allies while being unparalleled duelists.

Abilities: A contender usually needs a high Strength or Dexterity and sometimes has both. Additionally a contender with a high Constitution will be tough and more enduring. Finally a contender gains several benefits from a high Charisma, although not mandatory it makes several of her class features stronger and bolster her Will save.

Races: A contender can come from all cultures and races, and they usually represent the physical paragon of their kind. Because of the inherent competitiveness

Alignment: Any.

Starting Gold: As Fighter.

Starting Age: Simple.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Contender.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A contender is proficient with all simple and martial weapons. They are proficient with light and medium armor, but not shields.

Athletics (Ex): A contender gain a +10 untyped bonus to her base land speed and a gain a competence bonus equal to half her class level on all Strength and Dexterity-based skill checks. Additionally a contender can attempt to Climb at full speed or Swim at full speed without the normal penalty for doing so, she instead gain a +5 bonus if she move less than her full speed while climbing or swimming.

Physical Quality (Ex): A contender can be strong, agile or both. A contender can use her Strength or her Dexterity when determining her attack bonus with melee or ranged attack, at her choice when the attack is made. Additionally if she uses Dexterity to determine her attack bonus on a melee attack and add her Strength to damage, she also adds half her class level to damage (minimum of +1).

Unarmed Striker (Ex): An contender gain the Improved Unarmed Strike and Superior Unarmed StrikeToB feats as bonus feats, even if she does not meet the prerequisites.

Air of Confidence (Ex): A 2nd level contender exudes confidence and moxie, she add her Charisma as a bonus on her Will save.

Bonus Feat: At 2nd level, 6th level and each four levels thereafter, a contender gains a [Fighter] bonus feat she meets the prerequisites for. She counts her contender as a fighter level for the purpose of qualifying for feats. Additionally she may select Leadership as a bonus feat if she meets the prerequisites.

Contender Talents: At 3rd level and each 3 levels thereafter the contender gain a special talent listed below. Once chosen she cannot change her chosen talent and a talent can only be selected once.

Aura of Triumph (Ex): A contender with this talent adds her Charisma bonus as a competence bonus to her AC as long as she wears no armor and use no shield.
Airlift Shoes (Ex): A contender with this talent gain the Charge Item Specialist feat as the bonus feat, but it only apply to Winged Boots. She gains a free pair of winged boots upon taking this talent, which she can use six times per day thanks to the feat. The contender must be 6th level or higher to select this talent.
Bold Stance (Ex): A contender with this talent can take a -4 penalty to AC, if she does any creature who attacks her provoke an attack of opportunity from her. Attacks against you are considered one single provoking action, regardless of the number of attacks one makes (such as with a single attack or a full attack). Opponents are aware of the consequence of your stance.
Bruise Resistant (Ex): A contender with this talent converts 5 points of damages on any attack which hit her into non-lethal damage. If the attack only dealt non-lethal damage she instead reduce the non-lethal damage taken by 5.
Champion Boxer (Ex): A contender with this talent gain the Unarmed Strike progression of a Monk, which is further modified by her Superior Unarmed StrikeToB.
Cool Attitude (Ex): A contender with this talent can delay the onset of any status effect which would affect her by 1 round with the exception of death. Once per day as an immediate action she may negate the status effect entirely. This does not affect damage, ability damage, ability burn or ability drain.
Excelsior (Ex): A contender with this talent can ignore any effect which prevents her from acting on her turn, but doing so causes her to lose 1 hit point per hit dice she has. This hit point loss cannot be prevented and cannot be healed until the contender has a full rest. This does not allow the contender to act while below 0 hit point (if she normally couldn't) or while dead.
Expert Climber (Ex): A contender with this talent gains a climb speed equal to base land speed, additionally if she fails a climb check she never falls or loses progress. She also become acclimated to high elevation after 24 hour.
Heavy Slam (Ex): A contender with this talent deal her unarmed strike damage to any creature she successfully Bull Rush or Overrun. If she wear medium or heavy armor, she adds her armor bonus to the damage dealt when using this talent.
Improved Evasion (Ex): A contender with this talent gain Improved Evasion as the Rogue special ability. The contender must be 12th level or higher to select this talent.
Master Swimmer (Ex): A contender with this talent gain a swim speed equal to her base land speed, additionally she can hold her breath for five times as long.
Marathoner (Ex): A contender with this talent gain a Monk's unarmored speed bonus, although she may use it in any armor she is proficient with. She also gain the benefit of the Run feat and may run for a number of minutes equal to her Constitution score instead or round before she needs to make Constitution checks.
Menacing Glare (Ex): A contender with this talent possesses a truly menacing air about her. Any opponents in her Aura of Confidence loses their immunity to fear, take a -2 penalty on saves against fear-effect and the contender may deliver an Intimidate check to demoralize opponent within her aura as a swift action. If she successfully cause a creature to become Shaken with her demoralize opponent she may extend the duration of the effect by her Charisma modifier.
Refreshment (Ex): A contender with this talent can retrieve and consume a potion (or drinkable alchemical item) with the same move action. Twice per day, she may Empower, Extend or Maximize the effect on a potion she drinks as a free action.
Signature Weapon (Ex): A contender with this talent choose a single weapon you possess Weapon Focus in, this weapon counts as a 'sport weapon' for the purpose of Contender's class feature such as Sport Weapon Training.
Weighty Stance (Ex): A contender with this talent cannot be moved more than 5 feet against her will as long as she stayed in her current square since the start of her last turn.

Evasion (Ex): A 3rd level contender gain Evasion as a Rogue except she may use it in medium armor.

(Ex): At 4th level, a contender acquires a sponsor logo which she can display to bolster her confidence and the confidence of her allies. Her sponsor logo grants bonuses to the contender and any allies who can see her as long as the logo is visible on the contender. A sponsor logo is typically displayed on armor, the contender may add her logo to a piece of equipment for 50 gp, and a logo only has an effect if it is on the contender. The contender select her logo from the following list, at 10th level she gain a second logo, and 20th level she gains a third logo.

Cool Logo: This logo grants the contender and any allies who see her gain half of the contender's class level as a bonus on all Charisma-based skill check. Once per encounter, as a swift action, the contender can shroud herself in self-confidence and gain 5 temporary hit points per class level she has. These temporary hit points do not stack and last for 1 minute.
Defiant Logo: This logo grants the contender and any allies who see her a +2 moral bonus on Will save against [compulsion] effects. Once per encounter, the contender may reroll any failed saving throw as an immediate action with a +4 bonus.
Glorious Logo: This logo grants the contender and any allies who see her a +2 moral bonus on attack roll and AC when charging. Once per encounter, as a swift action, the contender may call for glory and grant herself a bonus on attack roll and damage rolls equal to her Charisma modifier for 1 round.
Proud Logo: This logo grants the contender and any allies who see her a cumulative +1 bonus on attack rolls whenever they miss an attack in a round, up to a maximum of +5. This bonus only apply to the foe they missed, and reset to +0 if they attack another opponent. Once per encounter, the contender can as a free action automatically roll a 20 on any attack roll or skill check. This is done after the initial attack or skill check is rolled but before it is declared a success or failure. This ability does not trigger any effect which trigger on a natural 20.
Stalwart Logo: This logo grants the contender and any allies who see her DR 2/-, which stack with other sources of DR/-. Once per encounter, as a immediate action she may halves the damage against a single attack targeting her after calculating damage reduction, energy resistance and similar protection.

Sport Weapon Training (Ex): At 5th level the contender gain a +1 competence bonus on attack and damage roll and gain the benefits of the Improved Critical feat with the following weapons: Club, Greatclub, Javelin, Heavy Ball, Rapier, Shortbow and Unarmed Strike (including unarmed strike weapons). This bonus increases by +1 at 9th level and each 4 levels thereafter.

Superiority (Ex): A 7th level, when a contender succeeds on a ability or skill checks she counts the roll as 5 points higher for the purpose of determining the successful result. This bonus does not apply if the check fails or is a draw, only if she achieve at least some degree of success.

Mettle (Ex): A 8th level contender gain mettle as a HexbladeCA.

Potential Unlocked (Ex): A 11th level contender has learned how to unlock her true potential. Once per encounter, as a free action at the start of her turn she may gains four extra standard actions to use during her turn. However she is limited to a single full-attack action, she may use those standard actions as move actions. After using Potential Unlocked, the Contender is exhausted for 1d4 rounds.

Unbreakable (Ex): As long as contender of 16th level or higher is at 50% hit point or higher she cannot be made Dazed, Nauseated Staggered or Stunned. This does not apply if the status is self inflicted.

Sport Weapon Supremacy (Ex): A 19th level contender is the true master of sport weapons, she increases the critical threat modifier of all listed weapons by 1, to a maximum of x4.

Unbeatable Champion: A 20th level contender has attained the peak of her power, her aura of confidence extends to 120 feet. All non-mindless opponents within her Aura of Confidence are constantly At Bay from her. A creature with 4 or more hit dice than her is not affected by this ability.

Additionally she also gains the Champion ability of her sponsor. She becomes nigh untouchable and does not risk losing her sponsorship unless she commits a particularly bad gross misconduct.
