Class Features[edit]

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A shifter is proficient with simple weapons and light armor.

Natural Spell: A shifter gains Natural Spell as a bonus feat at level 1, with the added caveat that it only applies to spells that he gains from being a shifter. The shifter cannot take Natural Spell as a feat again so that this exception can be applied to spell lists from other classes.

Spells: A shifter cast divine spells, which are drawn from the list below. His caster level for these spells is equal to his class level. The save DCs for these spells are equal to 10 + the spell's level + his Wisdom modifier. A shifter must have a Wisdom score of at least 10 + the spell's level in order to cast the spell.

A shifter know all of the spells on his class list, and may cast any of them without preparation so long as he has an appropriate spell slot available and an Wisdom score of at least 10 + the spell's level. His maximum available slots per day are determined by his class level (as seen on Table: The Shifter), and he gains bonus slots from his Wisdom score.

In order to receive their spell slots, the shifter must meditate for 1 hour without interruption in a place free from distractions or noise. At the end of this time, he receives his spell slots. After praying, the templar cannot gain new spells from further meditation until one day (24 hours) has passed.

A shifter’s spells not intended to be its primary mode of action; they are more for utility and primarily intended to buff his already formidable animal form and/or his teammates.

Wild Shape (Ex): A shifter’s signature ability allows them to turn into a one of three alternative forms, each of which is intended to fill a particular role on a battlefield: a form for tanking (generally represented by a bear), an attack form (a cat), and one for mobility/flight (a bird). The specific animal forms to which these roles are assigned are not set in stone, but alternative forms should follow the same general pattern of traits. Changing forms is a swift action useable at will, albeit subject to limitations based on the number of rounds the shifter can maintain the form. Assuming his basic form is a free action.

When the shifter uses wild shape, his Hit Dice change to the number listed, giving him additional temporary hit points during the transformation. He gains modified ability scores based on the changes laid out with each new form, bonus Combat feats from the lists provided for each form (one at 1st level and another every four levels) and also gains new abilities specific to each form and his class level. All abilities assumed from shapeshifting are Extraordinary (Ex), and since that has been stipulated here they are not marked as such below.

Fully transforming harnesses the shifter’s true power is taxing on his body, and as such he can only maintain the change for a limited period of time. The shifter has a counter of how many turns that they can remain fully shapeshifted, which is equal to his Constitution modifier + his class level. Ending his turn shapeshifted reduces this counter by 1 (to a minimum of 0), ending it in base form increases it by 2 (to a maximum of the Con mod + class level figure).

By spending a swift and a standard action in his humanoid form, the shifter may recover the number of available turns to remain shapeshifted by his character level. Using this recovery in any shapeshifted form cuts the number of turns regained in half. This ensures that while the shifter may have to take a breather every once in a while, he will be able to get back in the fight quickly.

Tank Form (Bear)[edit]

  • Hit Dice: d12
  • Ability Score(s): Strength + X (X = 4 + one half caster level)
  • Natural armor bonus to AC equal to class level
  • Slam attack
  • Size becomes one category larger than normal (for instance, a Medium creature becomes Large).
  • Combat Feats: Blind Fighting, Great Fortitude, Expert Tactician, Horde Breaker, Juggernaut, Stand Still (Tome)
  • Maul/Impact: Crush opponent’s armor with your attacks, reducing its Armor bonus or natural armor bonus to AC by an amount equal to your adjusted Strength modifier (to a minimum of 0). When the AC bonus in question is reduced to 0 by this ability, the target takes additional damage equal to however much their Armor Class would normally have been reduced by.
  • Roar: Increase damage an opponent would do to you if they attacked successfully and reduce the damage they would deal to any of your allies by an equivalent amount.

Attack Form (Cat)[edit]

  • Hit Dice: d10
  • Ability Score(s):
  • Size remains same as base creature.
  • Combat Feats: Blitz, Feint Attack, Mage Slayer, Murderous Intent, Insightful Strike, Subtle Cut
  • Pounce: Make a full attack when charging
  • Rake/Mangle: Hitting with all of your natural attacks on a full attack action significantly increases damage dealt

Mobility Form (Bird)[edit]
