Etheliometer

An etheliometer is a rather crazy collection of knobs, levers, gears, and dials. Those who understand a bit about how magic works can use the various fiddly bits on it to detect the presence of magic and to learn information about it. It requires two hands to operate, and only characters with ranks in Arcana, Geomancy, or Thaumaturgy can use it to get information.

As a 1-round action, an individual with ranks in one or more of the above skills can determine the presence of magic in a 60' cone starting at the etheliometer. With an additional 1-round action, the wielder can determine the direction and distance to each magical effect in the cone. Additionally, the wielder can determine additional information about a magical effect that they have located, but they must be within 5' of the effect. Once at this distance, as a 1-minute action they can attempt to determine more information about the effect. This allows them to use the Identify Magic ability of Arcana, Geomancy, or Thaumaturgy. They gain additional information about the effect based on the result of their check.
