1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.

The xyston is a type of longspear with a weighted end not unlike a small mace, allowing it to be used in one hand and often in conjunction with a shield. By handing it the other way, it can be wielded like a mace on a polearm dealing bludgeoning damage instead. It may also be used as a double weapon using both hands.

A xyston has reach. You can strike opponents 10 feet away with it, but you can’t use it against an adjacent foe. If you use a ready action to set a xyston against a charge, you deal double damage on a successful hit against a charging character. Feats and abilities which work on longspears work on xystons.

Those with the appropriate Exotic Weapon Proficiency benefit from the following weapon arts.

Backstab: Once per round whenever you make an attack on a creature you can attack a creature behind you as well with the other end of the weapon. This backstab attack does not have reach.

Shield Poke: You still threaten an area when taking total defense, and you can still attack when taking cover behind a tower shield at a -2 penalty to attack and damage.

Short Haft Mace: You can choose to wield the mace head part of the xyston in melee without reach. Switching between modes is the same action as drawing a weapon.

Snap Flip: As part of an attack you can switch from piercing end to bludgeoning end. You can choose to short haft as part of this action.
