This devilish spell saps the life of wounded creatures (those that have their hit points reduced by at least half) within 30 feet of you, forcing them to make a Fortitude save or die. A successful save makes the creature immune to the effects of the consumptive field for 1 hour. This spell’s effect occurs at the beginning of each of your turns.
The souls of creatures slain by this spell are absorbed into you, but only those with a sufficient strength (three CR lower than your caster level at most) possess enough power to actually rejuvenate you in any meaningful way. On any turn in which such a creature is slain and their essence absorbed, you gain a +4 profane bonus to Strength until the beginning of your next turn. In addition, you are healed a number of hit points equal to the HD of each creature killed and any extra hit points are acquired as temporary hit points; you may only gain up to one third of your full normal hit points worth of temporary hit points.
