Good feat, hope you don't mind me making a feat tree based on it.--ThirdEmperor 05:22, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks :-D And go for it ;-) Just leave me a MoI when you do, I'd like to inject some input if that's alright :-) --Ghostwheel 05:24, October 4, 2009 (UTC)
Um.... I know this is complete and epic fail but what's a MoI? I'm not much of a internet person.--ThirdEmperor 05:30, October 4, 2009 (UTC)
n/p, Message of Interest... we had them on the sucky wiki, dunno if we still have em on this one. I'll just try to keep up if we don't, and will keep an eye out for the feats. --Ghostwheel 05:33, October 4, 2009 (UTC)
Thnx, the first feat is gonna be called Spellbreaking Blow.--ThirdEmperor 05:36, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Finally, a way to use a shield and not screw yourself over with halved power attack!

It's a reasonably solid option for a one-armed melee character. For everyone else, it's a way to turn a sword and board character into a two-handed weapon character with a shield (while TWF could take it, they don't really benefit from it as strongly and have their own feats to invest in already). While that's nice, it's just a tacit acceptance of the status quot where the only good melee build is a two-handed build rather than trying to make sword and board viable and distinct. I'd let people use this and get in on that setup, but I'm not particularly enthused by it.

While I'd prefer if PA just worked this way by default, it doesn't and this is a decent way to get people on the same playing field. The lack of significant prereqs is also appreciated.

Every party needs a pooper... --Ghostwheel (talk) 21:21, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
To be fair, I pooped on this a while ago and then pulled it for I don't know why, as seen below. - Tarkisflux Talk 21:26, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
So what would need to change for you to bump it up? What if it added some cool, flavorful bonuses if you chose to do one weapon, nothing in your off-hand? Would that do it? --Ghostwheel (talk) 21:44, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
Probably not. I don't think it would be a valid option on this without additional feat support so much as a thing that got ignored in favor of supported bits. The thing that's holding me back from a like is the thing that you're probably most fond of: the "counts as wielding with two hands" line. Everyone else seems to want SnB to basically grow into 2HF though, so changing that is probably not a good plan. - Tarkisflux Talk 23:21, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

It looks like it could have come from a core book. It's also nice to allow strong fighters this option to increase effectiveness.

While not the first feat on this wiki to give this benefit, it is the first to do so that builds off of only SRD material. This feat offers an excellent option to all melee characters. Though, not entirely original, and not quite proper for FA material.

Not quite--I can't think of another feat that allows traditional meleers to gain full use of Power Attack (and other feats down the tree) with a weapon used one-handed. --Ghostwheel 10:00, December 23, 2009 (UTC)

This is an option that makes sword-and-board viable when compared with the ad nauseam greatsword wielders rampant in the current state of 3.5e. Still offering a benefit to that same archetype (and dual-wielders) gives the feat a more universal application than limiting it to just shield bearers. It is also nice in that it allows for some degree of tactical versatility within a melee-oriented class in terms of armament selection, which is relatively minimal in many a campaign given the need for raw damage output.

As with TK-Squared's feat which does much the same thing, this feat grants a bonus of a reasonable and useful amount to damage. While this one has more strict requirements, it also applies to all weapons, putting it at just about the same level of excellence.

No longer are TWF and Power Attack mutually exclusive. This is actually quite an excellent way to give the non-ToB full-BAB classes a much-needed High power boost, while giving Warblades and Crusaders some nice flexibility in weapon style.

First time I read this, it made me think "why doesn't this already exist?"... and now it does. Mechanically solid while avoiding gimmicks. It does what a feat should do. Well thought out... and smells nice too.

Pretty good in any level of the game, make blademaster (guys and gals who fight with one weapon, nothing else) a lot more feasible. It why I think it deserve excellent mention.

Similar to my feat, but I can rate this one. Increases damage in a non-static way, which is the biggest problem with some feats. They just give you static boosts. Be dynamic people!

I applaud any effort to keep fighters in the game longer. This is one such effort, and as such I applaud it. And since it is by Ghostwheel, we know the mathematics is right. Works well for standard challenges of high level.

Old Ratings Commentary

Old favor: It's a solid option for strength based melee characters that helps boost their damage output, and the universal applicability is nice. It's just numbers though, and doesn't add any variety or flare to a character that takes it. - TarkisFlux 17:10, December 23, 2009 (UTC)

Just a quick reply to this--actually, it does more than "just numbers", since it makes sword-and-board-ers viable. The major source of damage the majority of meleers who don't have a source of straight damage to every attack (like Sneak Attack, which causes those who have such to go TWF) is Power Attack, and this feat lets you treat your attacks as two-handed, which allows you to get +2 damage for every -1 you take on attack (or +3 with Combat Brute) rather than +1, making Power Attack a viable option in some cases. (This also lets things like Shock Trooper be more viable for sword-and-board characters, and lets sword-and-board users of Stand Still to potentially get enough damage to stop enemies from easily making their Reflex saves.) Sure, you could say that that's "just numbers" too, but in my mind opening those (and more) options up makes it more than just that. --Ghostwheel 09:55, December 23, 2009 (UTC)
On it's own, this adds no options to your character and only makes your numbers bigger (vertical as opposed to horizontal advancement). Yes it lets you treat your one handed weapon as a two-handed weapon so you gain a bit of damage and greater benefit from other feats, but you still have to take those other feats since they are the ones granting you the options. Which is fine if you wanted to spend a feat on this so you can have a one-handed weapon and shield instead of a two-handed weapon and a dancing shield, but I honestly don't know why you wouldn't just put the feat towards the two-handed progression in the first place and ignore this entirely until you had feats to spare later on and felt like boosting your two-handed damage a bit. On a more preferential note, I'd rather not just turn every fighter into the same two-handed clone with different gear and would much prefer a one-handed tactic that was less viable with a two-handed or even two-weapon configuration. This is just tacit acceptance of the notion that the only good fighter builds are two-handed builds and everyone should just build towards one of those even if you don't want a two-handed weapon. - TarkisFlux 17:10, December 23, 2009 (UTC)
