::: I'm a little iffy about a few things. It has better BAB and HD than the witch, which is typically given to partial arcane casters. They are also more skilled than the Witch, but that's OK since they aren't Int-based. The spell list is lacking in utility and really limited, which helps differentiate it from the witch by design. I'm not opposed to what's written, but I'll admit some aspects worry me slightly. --[[User:Leziad|Leziad]] ([[User talk:Leziad|talk]]) 16:02, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Thoughts[edit]

I like the concept of the class, but I kinda wonder how it actually differs from the witch. It has spells and hexes, and then the other features are neat but mostly passive.

Since you mentioned in the fluff part that it "eats" curses to empower itself maybe you could give it a feature that allows it, if it resists a curse or similar effect, to regain something (hp, spell slots) or to empower its features (spell metamagic?). Maybe expanding it with feats?

Maybe you could add some feats: metamagic, spell focus, Hex feats?

As it stands the only thing it does with curse is with Empowered Cursed Object, which fine, but comes late.

Just a few thoughts. --The bluez in the dungeon (talk) 17:12, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

I've been in a beguiler-style caster mood, so I've been looking for excuses to make thematic builds. Being a cursemonger does make it casually associated with witches, especially with hexes. But witches have a different spell list and don't know all of it, and have familiar support. This one is more beguiler + curse.
It's true there aren't many class features that are strongly cursed flavor, but that is partly by design. As a beguiler-type caster, its spell list is a huge amount of its power. Beguiler handles this by being chock full of dead levels. I chose mild class features instead. If there is any 'main curse flavored class feature', I'd say its their climb from resistance to immunity to curses (and curse-like effects like petrification). -- Eiji-kun (talk) 11:25, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

I'm a little iffy about a few things. --Leziad (talk) 16:02, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
I'm sure a proper playtest would iron out any wrinkles. Glad you spotted that one thing though: Their spell list is somewhat redundant. There are 1001 variants of "-X to attack rolls" and other bestow cursey stuff, which is intentional. Actually, for some future beguiler-likes I am going for that too: Picking spells that are either niche or redundant, since the point is that you are the master of that one specific gimmick. To that end, I went with the middling gish build so in the event there was something you couldn't debuff to death, you still had a stick you could reasonable hit things with as a sidearm. We'll see how it works out. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 08:37, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
