Barbed Caltrops[edit]
Barbed caltrops are like regular caltrops but with a few exceptions: these caltrops were made to cause pain and bleeding . If the barbed caltrops succeed on the attack, the creature has stepped on one. The barbed caltrop deals 1 point of damage, then causes 1 point of bleed damage per round for 1 minute or until a DC 20 Heal check is passed or after the application of any amount of healing magic.
Removing the caltrop causes 1d3 damage unless a DC 20 Heal check is passed. Also the creature’s speed is reduced by one-half because of the wound to the lower limb. This movement penalty lasts for 48 hours (2 days), or until the creature is successfully treated with a DC 25 Heal check, or until it receives at least 3 points of magical healing.
A charging or running creature must immediately stop if it steps on a barbed caltrop. Any creature moving at half speed or slower can pick its way through a bed of barbed caltrops with no trouble.
