Blubber Layer[edit]

This graft modifies a creature's outer dermal layer and adds a subcutaneous layer of insulating fatty tissue. To graft a blubber layer, a grafter needs an adequate supply of donor blubber, typically from a cetacean or pinniped mammal. The graft process typically involves applying alchemically-tipped acupuncture needles to stimulate and aggravate the host's skin. Following this, the host consumes a treated slurry of the blubber and any necessary additional oils and fats (which may or may not sound really gross).

This is all rather tiring and burdensome on the host, which then takes 1 point of Constitution burn after the 4 hour process is complete. A blubber layer typically adds between 1/5th and 1/10th of the creature's weight previous weight to its total.

A blubber layer adds a +5 circumstance bonus on Fortitude saves against exposure to environmental cold dangers as if wearing a cold weather outfit. Unfortunately, a blubber layer also provides a –5 penalty on Fortitude saves against exposure to environmental heat dangers.
