A fireball is an explosion of flame that detonates with a low roar and deals 1d6 points of fire damage per caster level (maximum 5d6) to every creature within the area. Unattended objects also take this damage. The explosion creates almost no pressure.

You point your finger and determine the range (distance and height) at which the fireball is to burst. A glowing, pea-sized bead streaks from the pointing digit and, unless it impacts upon a material body or solid barrier prior to attaining the prescribed range, blossoms into the fireball at that point. (An early impact results in an early detonation.) If you attempt to send the bead through a narrow passage, such as through an arrow slit, you must “hit” the opening with a ranged touch attack, or else the bead strikes the barrier and detonates prematurely. The bead can be blocked by hitting it. Its AC is 18 + the caster's attack bonus on ranged touch attacks.

The fireball sets fire to combustibles and damages objects in the area. It can melt metals with low melting points, such as lead, gold, copper, silver, and bronze. If the damage caused to an interposing barrier shatters or breaks through it, the fireball may continue beyond the barrier if the area permits; otherwise it stops at the barrier just as any other spell effect does. Those affected must make a reflex save (DC = spell DC) or catch fire, taking 1d6 fire damage at the end of each round until they take a move action to put it out. Highly combustible objects (such as oil or paper) do not get a save.

  • By increasing the spell's level by one, you may increase the radius by +5ft, and the range by one step (close->medium->long). This may be applied multiple times.
  • By increasing the spell's level by one, the fire damage from catching fire is increased by +1d6 +1d6 per 3 spell levels (3, 6, 9) to a maximum of 5d6 damage at spell level 9.
  • By increasing the spell's level by one, the action required to put out an on fire creature or object is a standard action. This may be applied twice for a full-round action to be required.
  • By increasing the spell's level by two, you may ignore fire resistance, deal half damage to creatures and objects immune to fire damage, and do not divide fire damage before applying hardness.
  • By increasing the spell's level by two, your fireball also produces concussive force. Half of the spell's damage becomes magical bludgeoning damage (damage reduction applies), and all creatures are pushed away from the epicenter of the spell. The fireball uses twice your caster level + your spellcasting modifier as the effective strength to bull rush. Flying creatures are considered one size smaller than they actually are for the purposes of their opposed check. You do not follow the creatures being bull rushed. Only one bull rush is rolled by the spell, all "targets" within the spell's area get to make opposed rolls.
  • By increasing the spell's level by two, objects and creatures do not get a saving throw to avoid catching on fire.
  • By increasing the spell's level by three, you may cast pyrotechnics as a free action without using a spell slot, using the fireball as the fire source, even if you do not know the spell. If the fireball's area was greater than the smoke option, use the fireball's area.

The fireball's maximum damage scales with its level. For every 2 spell levels above 1st (3, 5, 7, 9) increase the maximum damage by 5d6.
