This rather inelegant weapon was a prototype for a new generation of shotguns made through fusing magic and technology. However it was neglected in favor of contemporary conventional firearms. Only a few of these rather fascinating weapons are left, gathering dust in abandoned storage units.
This +1 Shock Battle Shotgun has been intensely modified, firing through electromagnetic coils rather than a normal firearm's action. The Gauss Shotgun is made of a special patented material which increases the weapon’s range increment to 40 feet, grants it a hardness of 15 before enhancement and immunity to rusting.
The Gauss Shotgun uses a single Energy Cell in addition to a special Shotgun Shell each time it's fired. The Gauss Shotgun can hold 50 energy cells, which are reloaded as a full-round action which provokes an attack of opportunity. The shotgun shells fired from the Gauss Shotgun are specially made and don't require powder, thus cannot do not function for a conventional shotgun.
A Gauss Shotgun can fire a charged shot as a full-round action, dealing double weapon damage. This only multiplies the base damage dice of the weapon, not any dice from abilities such as sneak attack or from enhancements. Using a charge shot consumes 5 energy cells instead of 1. When the wielder's BAB reaches +6 she can fire a charged shot as a standard action. When the wielder's BAB reaches +11 and +16 the damage increases to triple weapon damage and quadruple weapon damage respectively.
The Gauss Shotgun is a unique item that cannot be replicated, but is not an artifact and thus may be destroyed or enhanced further as normal.
