Merchant's Chest[edit]

Merchant's Chest
Price: 180,000gp
Body Slot: --
Caster Level: 9th
Aura: Moderate Conjuration
Activation: Use-Activated
Weight: 300 lbs

When items are placed inside this chest, the chest closed, and the word "Sell" spoken, money equivalent to the average market place will be inside the chest instead of the items. This is irreversible, no buyer's remorse.

NOTE: Each item placed into the chest must have a minimum value of 1 gp to sell. This isn't some marketplace where someone will buy whatever trash you found on the ground. What happens to items worth less than 1 gp is up to the discretion of the DM. The items may just disappear forever, may actually sell (if it is just a cheap item, not trash (and the DM is feeling generous)), or re-appear outside the box (possibly over the head of the character trying to sell, say rocks, if you annoy the DM enough).

When money is placed within the chest, the chest closed, and the words "Buy [Material]" spoken, the material asked for will be inside the chest rather than the money. This is an exchange done at average market price for an equivalent amount of material. Note: this process only occurs for raw materials, not finished product; however, even magic materials may be provided so long as they are non-specific (i.e. dragonhide would be fine, but hide from the dragon "Bahamut" would not).

The chest is 5 feet by 5 feet and 4 feet tall, though, like a bag of holding, the inside is bigger than the outside. Any object with dimensions within 4 times the size of the opening (width and length) can be sucked into the chest and the interior volume can hold items of up to 10,000 cubic feet. This chest is not to be treated as a bag of holding however, as material that is in the chest for more than 24 hours (total, not sequential) is automatically sold. Money may stay in the chest indefinitely, without the standard size limits of the chest; however, you are always two words away from having all that money converted into one item and stolen.

Nonliving and dead objects sell fine, but the chest cannot sell living creatures. Living creatures placed in the chest immediately appear outside the chest as if they were never placed in the chest.

Unlike a bag of holding/portable hole/handy haversack, this chest is dimensionally stable. That is, no unfortunate side effects occur if the chest encounters other dimensional occurrences.

Finally, the chest costs 180,000gp normally, but shrinking enhancements (+27,000gp) and lightening enchantments (+33,000gp) can be added. A shrunken chest is an inch cube and a lightened chest weighs 1 lb. Both enchantments can be activated/deactivated at will (once per round).

Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, secret chest.
Cost to Create: 180,000 gp, 1,440 EXP. 207,000 gp, 1,656 EXP (shrinking). 213,000 gp, 1,704 EXP (lightening). 240,000 gp, 1,920 EXP (shrinking and lightening).
