Naga, Ur'Bosan[edit]

Snakemen from Bosura

Personality[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

Nagas have a humanoid upperbody and a snake body from the waist down. Their bodies are entirely covered in scales, though the scales on the front of the humanoid upperbody are finer. Their heads are a varied mix of human and reptilian features.

Nagas lay eggs in clutches of 6-10. A newly hatched Naga is tiny and grows rapidly.

They shed skin much as snakes do and often save such skins to make cloth goods.

Relations[edit]

Nagas are a fairly reclusive lot.

Lands[edit]

Nagas are very well adapted to desert and aquatic environments. Nagas live primarily in the Garas Crater Desert, the location of their former civilization. It was once a lush jungle but after the Snakes'fall Calamity their entire civilization disappeared in a single night. What is left of Naga society is a small smattering of what once was. Not much is known of their culture pre-calamity, but they are now a group of nomads lamenting their former glory.

The only permanent settlements of the Nagas are the Garas Oasis and the Coral Caverns. Coral Caverns are a massive underground cave complex which is underwater.

Religion[edit]

Nagas worship various serpentine deities, including the White Serpent, Orobouros, the Rainbow feathered serpent, the Night serpent, and world serpent. Their religion is widely believed and focuses on ascension to godhood, as nearly all such "gods" were said to be mortal at one point. They long for the glories of their past and each seek to return their people to their rightful place as a proper civilization instead of outcast nomads.

Language[edit]

Nagas speak the language of serpents. This is a magical language that snakes and snake-like creatures all understand instinctively. Many also learn draconic, aquan, and various other languages.

Names[edit]

Nagas are born knowing their own name and instinctively know the names of snake-like creatures they meet. Naga names tend to be 2-8 syllables and almost never include labial consonants (b, p, f, v, m).

Racial Traits[edit]

  • +2 Constitution, -2 Wisdom or -2 Charisma
  • Humanoid (Reptilian)
  • Large: As a Large creature, a naga, ur'bosan takes a -1 size penalty to Armor Class, a -1 size penalty on attack rolls, a +4 size bonus on special attack (bull rushes, grapples, overruns, and trips) checks, and a -4 size penalty on Hide checks, but it uses larger weapons than humans use, and its lifting and carrying limits are twice of those of a Medium character. They have a space and reach of 10 feet.
  • Naga, Ur'Bosan base land speed is 30 ft feet.
  • Large (long): Nagas have a modified version of the Large size. A Naga takes a -1 size penalty to Armor Class, a -1 size penalty on attack rolls, a +4 size bonus on special attack (bull rushes, grapples, overruns, and trips) checks, and a -4 size penalty on Hide checks, but it uses larger weapons than humans use, and its lifting and carrying limits are twice of those of a Medium character. As they are large (long) they have a space or 10 feet but a reach of 5 feet.
  • Snaketail (Ex): You have a snake's tail instead of legs, and thus loose your magic item slot for boots. You gain stability which grants a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing on the ground (but not when climbing, flying, riding, or otherwise not standing firmly on the ground).
You have a Feral Strike tail slap with reach, one which can hit both distance and adjutant targets. It deals 2d4 + Strength if used with other attacks. You may deal your tail slap's damage when dealing damage in a grapple.
You count as a quadruped when handling carrying capacity, and your unusual body type requires you to gain armor for unusual creatures.
Nagas have an almost elastic spine, the host gain a +4 bonus to escape artist and tumble check, count as two size category smaller for the purpose of squeezing, grant a +8 bonus on saving throw against effect that would break or sever your spine and allow the host to contort their spine in unnatural ways (for what it worth). Finally, you take a -4 penalty to jump checks.
  • Snaketongue (Su): Nagas are under a constant Speak with Animals effect, except it works with any snake or snake-like creature with an intelligence score.
  • Slither (Ex): Nagas slither along the ground, through water, and up trees. They may use their base land speed as a climb or swim speed. They have a +8 racial bonus on Balance, Climb, and Swim checks. A snake can always choose to take 10 on a Climb or Swim check, even if rushed, distracted, endangered, or threatened. Snakes use either their Strength modifier or Dexterity modifier for Climb checks, whichever is higher. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line.
  • Venomous Bite: Nagas have a Feral Strike bite that delivers an injury poison. The bite deals 1d6 damage 20/x3. The poison deals 1d6 points of Strength and Dexterity damage (Fort DC= 10+1/2ECL+Constitution modifier, and again one minute later. They may produce this poison a number of times each day equal to 3 + your Constitution bonus. They may, as a move action, apply the poison to a weapon or into a vial. The poison becomes inert after 10 minutes unless a gentle repose spell is cast on it, which allows it to last 2 days 12 hours and 50 minutes.
+4 racial bonus on saves against poison.
  • Snake Skin (Ex): Nagas have a tough skin. They have +2 natural armor, and may hold their breath for 2 minutes per point of Constitution. They make Fortitude saves, not Constitution checks and the DCs start at 0 not 10. They can go twice as long without food or water (2 days + 2 hours per point of Constitution for water and 6 days for food) The interval they must save at changes similarly (every 2 hours without water and every 2 days without food).
  • Deep Slumber (Ex): A naga may enter a state of deep slumber in which all biological functions cease and they appear to be dead. This works as Quasi-Eternal Rest spell (self-only) with an additional trigger of another creature attempts to wake them. They can still be harmed, although they are treated as an object with hardness 8 when beneficial. Healing abilities still work including fast healing and diseases, poisons, and other such affects still have their durations run out.
