Puppet
Transmutation [Mind-Affecting]
Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 7
Components: S
Casting time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: 1 creature
Duration: 1 round/level (D)
Saving Throw: Fortitude partial
Spell Resistance: Yes

Horrified, with an outstretched hand, the halfling merchant's skin became saggy cloth. His attempt to scream was quickly muffled by stitching over his mouth. His motions became floaty as he lurched forward from behind his cart and flailed madly about, silently.

On a failed save, the target is temporarily transformed into an animated construct under the control of the caster's will for the spell's duration. The creature retains its own abilities, but makes any check (attacks, saves, skill checks and ability checks) at a −2 penalty. Additionally, the DC of any ability it possesses (such as casting a spell or using its poison) suffers a −2 penalty.

The subject of this spell may make a Will save against the same DC each round to impede the caster's will. With a successful save, it may either force itself to take a −6 penalty for that round (instead of −2) or shorten the duration of the spell by an additional round.

On a successful save against the spell's casting, the target creature is only partly bound by restrictive material, becoming entangled. These bindings can be shrugged off with a Strength check or an Escape Artist check against the spell's DC as a standard action (or at a −5 penalty as a swift action).

Creatures immune to mind-affecting effects are still subject to this spell as though they had succeeded in their initial save.

Puppet Flavors

The material or whatever visual distinction the puppet takes is purposely avoided in the spell's primary description since it doesn't matter. The caster can have wooden puppets or stitched-up puppets or cloth sack puppets or porcelain puppets or whatever. That's all flavor and can be described however the caster wishes since it in no way affects the function of the spell.
