Rebalanced Monk

, This is an additional feature for the Monk class. :None

Unarmored Defense[edit]

Whenever you are wearing no armor and not using a shield, your AC is equal to 10 + your Proficiency bonus, plus your Dexterity or Wisdom modifier, whichever is higher.

When you reach 10th level in this class, you gain an additional +2 AC while wearing no armor and not using a shield.

Unarmored Defense replaces the feature of the same name normally gained by the Monk class at 1st level.

Ki Dice[edit]

Beginning at 2nd level, you have access to the mystical energy of Ki. This energy is represented by a pool of Ki Dice, the size of which is the same as your Martial Arts Die. Thus, at 2nd level, you possess two Ki Dice, which are d4s; At 5th level, you would have five dice, which are d6s, and so forth.

Each time you expend a Ki Die, the die is rolled by the feature, and the result of that roll is applied to the feature's effect in some way, as your Ki surges forth. However, sometimes, your Ki is not fully expended - Rather, the effect you create is weaker than intended, as your body struggles to properly unleash this energy. This is beneficial, however, as you can kindle the spark left behind by the Ki you expended in order to

At 2nd level, when whenever you roll a 1 on a Ki Dice that you have expended, the die is not expended. At 5th level, a Ki Die is not expended when you roll a 2 or less; This improves to 3 or less at 11th level, to a 4 or less at 17th level, and to a 5 or less at 20th level.

When you finish a Short or Long Rest, you regain all of your expended Ki Dice. In order to do so, you must spend at least 30 minutes in meditation, pulling your Ki back into your body.

Whenever a Monk class or subclass feature calls for you to expend a Ki Point, you instead expend a Ki Die.

Ki Dice and Ki Powers replace the Ki feature normally gained by the Monk class at 2nd level.

Ki Powers[edit]

Beginning at 2nd level, you gain three Ki Powers that you that may use your Ki to perform - Flurry of Blows, Step of the Wind, and Patient Defense. As you gain experience, you learn additional Ki Powers.

Ki Save DC: 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Wisdom modifier.

The first three powers are as follows.

  • Flurry of Blows: Immediately after you take the Attack action on your turn, you may expend one Ki Die as a bonus action in order to make two additional attacks using either unarmed strikes or Monk Weapons. Roll the Ki Die. If both attacks made as part of your Flurry of Blows are successful and strike the same target, the target takes additional damage equal to the number rolled on the Ki Die.
  • Step of the Wind: As a bonus action, you may expend one Ki Die to gain the benefits of either the Dash or Disengage action; When you do so, your jump distance is doubled until the beginning of your next turn. Roll the Ki Die. Until the beginning of your next turn, if you are wearing no armor and not using a shield, your AC is increased by an amount equal to the number rolled on the Ki Die.
  • Patient Defense: As a bonus action, you may expend one Ki die to gain the benefits of the Dodge action. Roll the Ki Die. Each time you take damage before the beginning of your next turn, that damage is reduced by an amount equal to the number rolled on the Ki Die.

Ki Dice and Ki Powers replace the Ki feature normally gained by the Monk class at 2nd level.

Deflect Missiles[edit]

Starting at 3rd level, you can use your reaction to deflect or catch the missile when you are hit by a ranged weapon attack. When you do so, the damage you take from the attack is reduced by 1d10 + your monk level, plus your Dexterity or Wisdom modifier (Whichever is higher).

If you reduce the damage to 0, you can catch the missile if it is small enough for you to hold in one hand and you have at least one hand free. If you catch a missile in this way, you can spend 1 Ki Die to make a ranged attack with a range of 20/60 using the weapon or piece of ammunition you just caught, as part of the same reaction. You make this attack with proficiency, regardless of your weapon proficiencies, and the missile counts as a monk weapon for the attack. Additionally, roll the Ki Die. The attack deals additional damage equal to the number rolled on the Ki Die.

Deflect Missiles replaces the feature of the same name normally gained by the Monk class at 3rd level.

Ki-Fueled Attack[edit]

Also at 3rd level, if you spend 1 Ki Die or more as part of your action on your turn, you can make one attack with an unarmed strike or a monk weapon as a bonus action before the end of the turn.

Ki-Fueled Attack replaces the feature of the same name normally gained by the Monk class at 3rd level.

Quickened Healing[edit]

Also at 4th level, as an action, you can expend 2 Ki Dice to heal yourself. Roll both Ki Dice, and total the results. You regain hit points equal to your Proficiency Bonus, plus the total result of both Ki Dice.

Quickened Healing replaces the feature of the same name normally gained by the Monk class at 4th level.

Disrupt Ki[edit]

Beginning at 5th level, whenever you land a melee weapon attack against a creature, you can expend a Ki Die. Roll each Ki Die. The attack deals additional Psychic damage to the creature equal to the number rolled on the Ki die.

Additionally, each creature that you affect with this feature must make a Constitution saving throw against your Ki save DC, or suffer a debilitating effect, based on the number of Ki Die you have used to disrupt their Ki in this way since the end of your last turn.

The effects are as follows:

  • 1+ Dice: If the target fails the save, it cannot take Reactions until the beginning of your next turn.
  • 2+ Dice: If the target fails the save, its movement speed is reduced to 0 until the start of your next turn.
  • 3+ Dice: The target suffers disadvantage on the Constitution saving throw. If the target fails the save, it cannot take Actions until the beginning of your next turn.
  • 4+ Dice: If the target fails the save, it is Stunned until the start of your next turn.

Disrupt Ki replaces the Stunning Strike feature normally gained by the Monk class at 5th level.

Focused Aim[edit]

Also at 5th level, when you miss with an attack roll, you can expend one Ki Die. Roll the Ki Die. The attack roll is increased by an amount equal to the number rolled on the Ki Die, potentially turning the miss into a hit.

Focused Aim replaces the feature of the same name normally gained by the Monk class at 5th level.

Diamond Soul[edit]

Beginning at 14th level, your mastery of ki grants you proficiency in all saving throws.

Additionally, whenever you make a saving throw and fail, you can expend a Ki Die. Roll the Ki Die. The saving throw is increased by an amount equal to the number rolled on the Ki Die, potentially turning the failure into a success.

Empty Body[edit]

Beginning at 18th level, you can use your action to spend 4 Ki Dice to become invisible for 1 minute. Roll each Ki Dice, and total the results. During that time, you also have resistance to all damage but Force damage, and your movement speed is increased by 5ft x the total number rolled on the Ki Dice.

Additionally, you can spend 8 Ki Dice to cast the Astral Projection spell, without needing material components. When you do so, you can't take any other creatures with you. Roll each Ki Dice, and total the results. When the spell ends, you regain hit points equal to the total number rolled on the Ki Dice.

Perfect Self[edit]

At 20th level, when you roll for initiative, you regain one expended Ki Die. Additionally, when you expend a Ki Die and roll a 5 or less on that Ki Die, that Ki Die is not expended.
