"Its sheath long lost to time, this bare gleaming blade has a cut closer to a gladius. The hilt, handle and blade are all mithral, polished to a mirror's shine. The origin of the blade is unknown. Strange magic and craftsmanship have gone into its construction. The blade is also thought to be historically traced back to a series of weapons known as the ensis argentum, though this is difficult to confirm. A small inscription can be seen at the base of the blade: Life is fleeting." -Auction House Provenance Notation
This unique +1 mithral short sword has been treated to also serve as alchemical silver for overcoming damage reduction. Additionally, the weapon grants a +2 bonus on rolls to confirm critical hits with it. This bonus increases to +4 against targets which are rendered flat-footed.
However, a minor curse is upon the weapon. Under the full moon, the wielder is compelled to only use this weapon if it is in his possession. He may use other weapons, but takes a –4 penalty on such attack rolls.
If the wielder is reduced to dying, he takes an additional point of damage each round from bleeding out. The wielder cannot stabilize himself while dying, but others may assist and do so as normal.
