I've been on the fence about Bleedout for a while, watching it being playtested in one of my games. I think this current version finally wins me over, specifically limiting bleedout to once per round.

Overall it's a helpful mechanic to deal serious damage for creatures or players with multiple attacks who are normally prone to being hamstrung by DR, but not being able to over-optimize and bleed out a creature 3 times in a round for 60% of it's max health is a smart limitation.

While I like the idea of bleedout quite a bit, I'm not sure about the implementation. Making it deal a flat 20% of the opponent's maximum health makes it fairly weak against most opponents, yet overwhelmingly powerful against equally overwhelming foes. I would instead opt for a bleed damage stat that is either static by weapon or effect, or dependent on the level or stats of whatever creature causes the bleed, to ensure that high level characters that focus on 'bleed' get their money's worth in most situations. Or, more to the point, to enable the existence of bleed-focused builds in the first place. --Sulacu (talk) 02:32, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Having tried a well-optimized bleed build, I can attest to it not being very effective at occurring. I know very well that the numbers for bleed are kept low purposefully because 20% can be an incredibly large number, but 20% is often not an incredibly large number in respect to the amount done in order to reach the point that bleedout occurs. I have mentioned this previously, but I think that either the numbers need to be changed (likely increasing the amount of bleed things do or decreasing the amount needed to cause a creature to bleedout) or the mechanic itself needs to be changed (possibly by cause it to be something along the lines of an extended SoD where if you managed to cause a creature to bleedout, they are reduced to -1 or something). --Undead_Knave (talk) 08:22, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Bleed Damage leads to bleedout[edit]

I am probably just having a brain block on this but do all effects that cause bleed damage lead to bleedout or do some bleed effect work differently? -- Amdillae (talk) 02:04, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Not all "bleed" effects are the same (which is why I try to refer to this form of bleeding as "bleedout damage"). Bleed in pathfinder for example is basically anti-fast healing. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 02:06, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
That is where I was getting myself confused, I have been playing a bit of pathfinder/home brew lately. While on the topic is it safe to assume that Blood Feast manuevers (since you wrote them) work on bleedout? -- Amdillae (talk) 02:10, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
I think Blood Feast uses some of both. I link it when it is using bleedout, otherwise assume normal pathfinder bleed. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 04:34, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
