This is worth the Exotic Proficiency... if you're running/in a game where having a laser isn't totally out of the question. Since it's certainly not a 1st level item anyways, snagging that feat right away isn't even necessary. Its a fun weapon (just the idea of a laser gun is fun) that's functionally quite different than just shooting crossbows to have its own unique feel, what with the Light damage. The additional damage in place of additional attacks is nice (and allows scaling while preventing roll bloat for attacks which usually resolve slower) and lets you get past tricky Hardness and Damage Reductions at higher levels more effectively than multiple weak shots. Also, it's a laser. Did you know that lasers have been a leading cause of awesomeness since the 1930s? That's probably not true, but I don't really care and lost my train of thought anyway. Check it out if the idea of using a laser even remotely interests you.

A good exotic weapons with plenty of fun quirks and uses.

Range Increment[edit]

Why would a laser gun have the same range increment as a bow? A laser, being focused light, is unaffected by gravity or windage. Since it'll continue in a straight line at a speed no creature can see, the only limiting factor would be the user's senses. I feel it should be higher. --Sulacu (talk) 20:42, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

While the range I used is semi-arbitrary, lasers do spread out with distance (especially in atmosphere), so lasers do have a maximum effective range. This range tends to be very large, but its easy to say that a hand held personal laser may have less of an effective range for damage than modern siege lasers used to shoot down missiles.
Since the accuracy of the beam is pretty arbitrary, from a mechanical standpoint do you think the weapon requires a maximum range greater than 1000 ft? -- Eiji-kun (talk) 23:33, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
