Me gusta.

Need things that apply this though.

Could even have a rule that all characters suffer from mana burn constantly depending on the campaign, though the DC would probably be lower (equal to the damage dealt, prolly).

That said, it should be allowed to apply to all kinds of spellcasters, and other "spellcasting" type characters (like manifesters) while you're at it.

True. I have ideas for both maneuvers and spells that inflict this condition, and exposure to certain effects that already exist may cause it, though I still have to work that out. Constant mana burn is possible. I have considered a blend of this with this feat I made long ago in order to make the loss of concentration not immediately damning. That said, even though don't wanna give wizards too much benefit, being hurt every time you use your main class feature is kind of a pain. --Sulacu (talk) 19:01, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
I may use these in my campaign setting's magic. When over half strain, gain Mana-Burn, and when over three-quarters Strain, it changes to Aggravated Mana-Burn. Hm. --Zhenra-Khal (talk) 22:39, 24 May 2017 (MDT)

Arcane Only?[edit]

The line here references arcane energies. So, it doesn't target clerics, druids, psions, or anyone else who isn't doing arcane spellcasting? What about arcane SLAs? - Tarkisflux Talk 21:17, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

So far, I am focusing it against arcane spellcasting. This also usually includes pretty much all spell-like abilities since they are standardly treated as arcane. If you consider arcane magic as inherent, or powered by energy you yourself control, that illustrates the point a little. You have control over the energy that powers your spells and this energy suddenly starts to fight back against you. In that sense, it should probably also work against, say, warlock invocations and incarnum. Some form of divine anathema might be able to create similar effects regarding divine spellcasting, but that's something for later. --Sulacu (talk) 21:28, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
May want to ammend "cast an arcane spell" to "case an arcane spell or use an arcane SLA" then. Just for clarity. - Tarkisflux Talk 21:35, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
