This Class Needs Better Abilities[edit]

Yeah, so I realize that this class is pretty weak when compared with a lot of the other Tome material. If anyone has any suggestions about what I could add to make it Wizard level balance, post them here, and I'll try my best to include them. Thanks! --Azya 18:41, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

Without looking at the class yet, a few bonus [Combat] feats would probably work. Say, 3, at level 3, 6, and 9? --Ghostwheel 19:09, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
I gave it combat feats at 2nd and 8th level, but 3 at level 3, 6, and 9 will probably work better. I'll go change that now.

Edit: I kept the feat at 8th, simply because they would be no other class feature at that level.--Azya 19:14, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, Diamond Soul is too much. 10 + Character level spell resistance is solid. 15 + Character level would be brutal. 20 + ChL + Charisma is "Immunity to spells which allow spell resistance unless the caster is -way- over your level"; to put another way...a character level 10 Nito with 10 Charisma would have spell resistance 30--meaning a 20th level caster would have to roll a 10 or better to beat his spell resistance. That aside, I think the shield bonus could be simplified. 1/3 character level (round up or down, your choice) + Weapon Enhancement Bonus + Dex or Wis mod would be a solid shield bonus. Especially if they're not that armored. With the shield bonus simplified down into one auto-scaling ability, some of the other Nito abilities could be things like "shield bonus applies to touch attacks" or "Get an AoO at people who attack you in melee and miss" and "Interrupt Line of Effect with your amazing sword-spinning skills" or even "deflect projectile to the target of your choice", a la Kroenen from the first Hellboy movie. The requirement feats could be something like "Insightful Strike or Weapon Finesse" rather than just Insightful Strike (which, this character wouldn't have Wisdom as their highest attribute anyway, so making them taking Insightful Strike to not get the full benefit isn't very nice to those who take this). --Genowhirl 21:04, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, Genowhirl! I implimented the changes you suggested. --Azya 23:47, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

Balance Point[edit]

Needs a balance point. --Franken Kesey 22:07, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Added in a placeholder, as I thought it was Rogue. Not quite enough for Wizard in my opinion, but it's certainly possible. - TG Cid 02:10, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

This class would normally be alright, but given what its alternatives are supposed to be (i.e. a Tome Samurai) it falls short of the lofty expectations set by that class. It's OK for the Tome Knight, since that class gives you 10 levels of leeway and I feel like Tome has still not made as many awesome PrC's to go with their base classes, but the abilities given by this class that are actually unique to it and not ripped from the Samurai are all inferior to the Samurai's abilities. There is nothing on par with Cut Magic or any of those other things that make the samurai as winning (or perhaps power-creep, as some may suggest) as it is. This is instead a bunch of passive bonuses rather than cool options. They may be necessary to achieve the goal of making the Samurai less of a glass cannon, but I would take the Samurai over this every time.
