very good detail, though when it comes to balance i had to reduce the crit ability of this class a little for my campaign :)

Couldn't resist

But the quote is very appropriate on multiple levels. --Genowhirl 08:41, January 16, 2010 (UTC)

Having an edge[edit]

I see a minor problem with edge, at high levels you are likely to be facing enemies that will have a lot more hit dice that you, therefore they are likely to have better BAB, so edge becoms difficult to use.

Quick Question[edit]

What is the Edge and how does one go about acquiring it? I have looked in the races of war but wasn't able to find it and I was hoping you could help... APoorLittleSeal 02:10, February 24, 2010 (UTC)

Here you go. Some feats in Races of War can also grant the Edge. Surgo 02:40, February 24, 2010 (UTC)
I was wondering if you could clarify something. If a level 20 tome Samurai fought a level 20 SRD Fighter without any BAB modifiers beyond what their class gives, who has the edge? The samurai has 20/15/15/15 and the fighter has 20/15/10/5 so would the Samurai have the edge?
No, neither character would. Your base attack bonus refers to the highest number. Surgo 01:03, February 25, 2010 (UTC)
(Grumble Edit Conflicts...) According to Tome rules, the every class only loses the first 5 points on an itterative attacks, and a core fighter would have 20 / 15 / 15 / 15 for his attacks as well (iterative attack change, it's in the same chapter Surgo linked (link fixed btw)). In general, you only need to worry about the size of the primary attack bonus, so 20 vs. 20 in this case and neither of them have the edge. That said, there are feats that just give people the edge in particular circumstances regardless of BAB. It's worth point out that just because I have the edge on you does not mean that you can not also have the edge on me, and it's entirely possible that they both have the edge on each other in these cases. Which is sorta bizarre, but works well enough most of the time. - TarkisFlux 01:06, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

Blade of souls[edit]

Do you really thing this is a good idea? 1) At level 17 it is no problem at all to find a tribe of Orcs kill them all and get 100 Kia! uses Do you really want that every big fight should be prepared this way?

2) Do you really believe soulbinding everybody you kill is a good idea... Not everybody you will fight actually deserve that.

IP Blade of Souls Changes[edit]

I'd like to restore (mostly anyway) the IP changes to the Blade of souls ability, for the following reasons:

  • It's an F & K class posted to the wiki with their approval by a 3rd party (and F & K have repeatedly avoided issuing errata / don't care if others update their work without approval), so normal update channels don't really apply.
  • They're largely bug fix changes, as they limit bag of rats abuse and "accidentally killed my friend while charmed / dominated / suffering delusions" problems. The spirit of the ability seems intact, even if a per day limit is a bit odd for the class makes less sense than a CR limit for charge generation (which I may just write in if the changes are otherwise restored).

Anyone opposed? - Tarkisflux Talk 01:19, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

The "accidentally killed my friend while charmed / dominated / suffering delusions" problem can actually be used as a tool to force an enemy Samurai to destroy their own weapon. --50.47.36.22 01:26, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
While true, the same things could just be used to force them to break the weapon. And it seems much less likely in general than just stealing / disarming / sundering and then breaking it, particularly given their [mind-affecting] resistances. So I'm not worried about removing it as a conceptual weakness of the ability, and wouldn't mind them just letting people out with the power of samurai forgiveness or whatever. - Tarkisflux Talk 02:38, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
I'm of the opinion that such well-known and widespread works as F&K's should be largely unadulterated. In the same way that we could make changes to the SRD rules if we wanted to, but should definitely not post those changes on the main SRD namespace -- in the same way, if someone's going to make a variant or additional rule for Tome stuff, it should not diminish from anyone's ability to find the "standard" version on the wiki. So...alternate class feature, or sidebar, or something, would be my vote. --DanielDraco (talk) 03:14, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
That's a pretty good call actually DD. A 3.5e Other article collecting Tome errata (like Surgo's sandbox page) is a better fit. Consider my request to restore the edit rescinded. - Tarkisflux Talk 03:34, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
