Vaarnat, Speaker of Waste[edit]
A vestige with the full power of the dark speech at its command.
Level: 7th
Binding DC: 35
Special Requirement: The binder must endure Vaarnat's dark speech during its summoning.
Legend[edit]
Vaarnat was a corrupted wizard who delved into black speech in an age long bygone, in an attempt to master it and use it for the good of mankind. He was eventually found out by his peers and, despite his good intentions, he was corrupted by the power of the dark magic he wielded. The wizards fought him to a standstill, until one of the youngest, whose name was forgotten by history, managed to use a powerful spell aimed to banish him. However, at the same time, Vaarnat was using the black speech to flee the scene. As a result of the conflicting magical energies, he found himself caught between dimensions, ripping his very essence apart. Vaarnat now only exists as a vestige, granting his mastery to whoever is foolish enough to bind him.
Special summoning[edit]
As Vaarnat is summoned, he will speak to the binder in a powerful form of dark speech, dealing 10d6 vile damage to the binder and forcing a will save (DC 25). If the will save is failed, the binding fails and the binder may not attempt to summon Vaarnat for 24 hours. If it succeeds, the vile damage is halved and the pact continues. If the binder forms a bad pact, he takes an extra 5d6 vile damage once the pact is concluded.
Any creature within 20 feet of the binding also takes damage, although no save is granted.
Manifestation[edit]
The sigil grows dark and starts radiating overwhelming evil. A shadowy apparition soon flickers in existence and starts speaking in a horrid, vile language.
Sign[edit]
The binder seems darker and grimmer, with a perpetual serious look on her face. The binder's eyes turn black, with arcs of black electricity surging from them.
Influence[edit]
The binder will often speak in controlled dark speech and will see others as inferior. The binder will also be much more violent and take her own ethical code extremely seriously.
Granted Abilities[edit]
Black Tongue[edit]
Vaarnat's powers allow the binder to talk in dark speech. The binder receives the dark speech feat. The binder is also capable of spekaing a mostly harmless version of dark speech as an extra language. Using dark speech while bonded with Vaarnat does not affect alignment.
Power of the Black Sigil[edit]
The binder receives the power of the black sigil. As an immediate action, the binder may elect to turn the damage her next spell-like, supernatural or extraordinary ability does into vile damage. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds.
Word of Waste[edit]
The binder is able to speak a terrible word of destruction, replicating the effect of shatter except as a 1-mile spread centered on the binder. All unattended objects take triple damage from this attack, and the binder (or his equipment) is not affected. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds.
Word of Power[edit]
By speaking a perversion of one of the words of power used by the Gods, the binder can call upon a powerful bolt of indra from the sky, hitting a target or square at close range. The origin of the line is located above the target, if the bolt hits a creature, it branches off as normal. The binder can also aim it at the ground, causing an area of effect (see the spell). Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds.
