Being Daunted and Bearing Up
Makes rolling hit points part of combat, and not part of character creation.
Being Daunted
If the attack roll for an attack which inflicts hit point damage is a natural 20 (the d20 shows up 20), make a confirmation roll with all the same modifiers as the attack roll just made. If the result is a 'hit', the target is daunted must reroll its hit points. If the attack is also a threat for a critical hit, use the same die roll for both. The new roll must be accepted whether higher or lower than before.
Bearing Up
Once per round, as a free action, up to (5 + Charisma modifier) times per hit point reset, a creature may bear up. The creature bearing up rerolls its hit points and may retain the old total; but one use is lost even if the roll is rejected.
Hit Point Reset
After at least 5 minutes of uninterrupted rest, a creatures hit dice are set to the maximum possible roll. Also, the creatures voluntary hit point rerolls are reset.
What Happens When You Reroll Hit Points
1. Roll the hit dice the creature is entitled to.
2. Recalculate Constitution modifier at current Constitution and apply to hit point total.
3. All other modifiers to hit points are unchanged. Apply them to hit point total.
4. If this reroll is due to bearing up, the old hit point total may be retained. If this option is taken, revert to previous hit point total. Hit point rerolls from being daunted skip this step.
5. Hit point damage and nonlethal damage are unchanged. Recalculate current hit points and compare to nonlethal damage.
