Aegis[edit]
Your shield can project a barrier of energy that moves with you. When the wielder of this shield chooses to use the total defense action, the shield activates, creating a wall-shaped perimeter shield of transparent energy. The wielder can choose not to activate the energy shield if they don't desire its protection.
The size of the energy shield is equal to the average space of a creature the of the size the shield was made for, +5ft (Which means, for Medium creatures, that the barrier is 15ft by 15ft). The barrier can phase into the ground if need be.
The energy shield has 5 HP per caster level and can be made at a higher caster level than 9th to increase the hit points. At its minimum caster level, this is 45 HP. The energy shield also has hardness equal to the hardness of the material used to craft the shield (Which has no effect on attacks that deal damage other than bludgeoning, piercing or slashing). If destroyed, the energy shield is disabled for 1d4 rounds. The shield regenerates 5 HP in any round it's not damaged, or twice this much each round the energy shield not in use. Spells and effects that a Wall of Force is vulnerable to, such as the Disintegrate spell, also immediately destroy the energy shield.
Attacks, projectiles, spells and abilities hit this energy shield as if it were a solid wall (Including incorporeal touch attacks), but sonic effects, gaze attacks and psionic attacks that allow a Will save, as well as nonstandard and conditional forms of damage, such as from the reduced effect of a destruction spell or the corrosive effect of a rusting grasp aren't reduced by Aegis energy shields. Spell and effects that do no deal damage also tend to pass through the energy shield.
The energy shield does not, however, grant any protection against critical hits, nor does it protect against poison, disease or damage from natural processes like starvation and so forth. The shield can never protect from damage that goes over its HP maximum; Any leftover damage affects the wielder normally.
Area effects, such as a Fireball or an acid flask, also detonate when striking the energy shield, as if they had struck a solid object, and do not pass through the shield unless they deal enough damage to destroy it.
While the energy shield is active, the character's movement speed is reduced as if wearing heavy armor, or by one-half if the movement was already reduced as such.
Typically the shield only blocks attacks from the front, so enemies will attempt to flank you, since the wall moves with the shield. But, allies can hide behind your shield, healing and so forth, and they can attack around the shield.
