The Book of Telling Stories[edit]
This tome is somewhat small, with thick paper pages and is well bound with a reddish-brown leather cover. The title is written in gilded letters across the front and spine, but no one can seem to agree on what language it is written in.
The pages of The Book of Telling Stories at first appear blank. A the reader holds the book, words form on the pages, revealing the holder's actions and thoughts and basic actions around them, environmental descriptions and details of what is currently transpiring as if by someone observing at a cursory glance. However, if the reader begins to skip ahead a few pages, the future begins to form in sparse words upon the pages. This functions as a casting of divination (caster level 15th). While this may be used at-will, with the 10 minutes of "reading" time for each casting, the danger of the book does not appear until someone has used it for the fifth time.
Upon its fifth use of divination by a reader, the book also summons a phantasmal killer that attempts to kill the reader (DC 22). Regardless of success or failures against the Fortitude save from the phantasm, the target's hair turns white from fear. After that, the book no longer shows words inside for that reader.
Readers that are immune to illusions, fear effects or mind-affecting effects or are not alive instead always get false information for their divinations.
