Bound By Avarice

You require payment. Up front.

Benefit: Money really is your ultimate motivator. Your wealth by level is increased by 5000 gp.

Drawback: You *must* be paid to act to do anything outside of self-defense and self-care. That means things like initiating a conflict, or giving someone assistance. If you violate this prohibition, then you take a −4 penalties on all d20 roll for 24 hours or while completing the task, whichever is longer. Additionally, due to your avaricious nature, creatures who have witnessed or are familiar with your mercenary nature have their NPC Attitude treated as one step worse towards you than normal (so an NPC Indifferent to your party would be Unfriendly to your character specifically, for example).

Special: You set your own rates on a per job basis. For jobs that are more than a simple task you will nail down a time limit, after which point you will need additional payment in order to continue. 1/10th the payment rates for lesser planar ally are a good guide for costs of services (10 gp/level for a quick service, 50 gp/level for a service taking several hours, 100 gp/level for a service taking several days). This payment is not intended to affect other party member shares of treasure.

Roleplaying Ideas: This character may be seen as a money-grubbing slime who only acts in their self-interest, or bound by some weird code of greedy honor or geas.
I’ll kill a man in a fair fight, or if I think he’s gonna start a fair fight… If he bothers me, or if there’s a woman… Or if I’m gettin’ paid. Mostly only when I’m gettin’ paid.
