"This marvelous black shield bears the symbol of an unknown noble family and the holy iconography of the goddess Ilyodyne."
This polished black shield bears the crest of the de Sereno family as well as the holy symbol of the goddess Ilyodyne. This shield, worthy of one of her champion is a +1 Black Mithral Heavy Shield. The Champion's Ward count as a light shield whenever doing so is advantageous, such as a being used as a weapon in a grapple as a light weapon. The Champion's Ward can be used as a Holy Symbol and is nearly indestructible, having an hardness of 30 which cannot be bypassed or reduced.
When wielded by a character with the True BelieverMiC (Ilyodyne) the Champion's Ward deflect a single killing attack. If the wielder would be reduced to -1 hit points or outright killed, the shield will deflect the attack, spell or effect. If the deflected effect was an an area of effect, it create a 30 ft. cone safe area behind the wielder starting from her space, the area is the safe zone is not affected by the area of effect. This effect only function once per day, and the effect may be used on an ally adjacent of the wielder, although one the wielder truly love.
The Champion's Ward is a unique item that cannot be replicated, but is not an artifact and thus may be destroyed or enhanced further as normal.
