5e Spell Corrosive Grasp
Transmutation cantrip
Casting Time: Varies
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (A rust monster scale or antennae)
Duration: Instantaneous
Casters: Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock

The towering warrior in dark armor raised his greatsword high, and brought it down on the wounded dryad at his feet. Abruptly, his weapon stopped short, and his expression turned to astonishment when he saw the halfling druid that stopped his blade with her bare hands, and to horror when he saw his blade rust and crumble in her grasp.

The powers of the natural world attempt to break down and reclaim a target you touch, dissolving flesh and rusting metal. Make a melee spell attack against a creature, or an unattended object. On a hit, the target suffers 1d4 points of Acid damage, and suffers one effect of your choice below:

  • Choose one nonmagical weapon made primarily of metal that the creature it wielding or has on its person. That weapon takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to damage rolls. If its penalty drops to -5, the weapon is destroyed.
  • Choose one nonmagical suit of armor made primarily of metal that the creature is wearing or has on its person. That armor takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to the AC it grants. If the AC granted by the armor is reduced to 10, it is destroyed.
  • Choose one nonmagical shield made primarily of metal that the creature is using or has on its person. That shield takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to the AC bonus it grants. If the AC bonus granted by the shield is reduced to 0, it is destroyed.
  • If the target is made primarily of metal, such as Animated Armor or an Iron Golem, you can choose to target the creature directly. When you do, the target suffers double damage from this cantrip, and suffers a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to its AC, and to the damage rolls of its unarmed strikes/natural weapons.
  • If the target is a nonmagical ferrous metal object, if the object isn't being worn or carried, the spell destroys a 1-foot cube of it.

At Higher Levels. At 5th level, you may make two melee spell attacks with this cantrip, choosing which of the above effects to inflict on a successful hit. This increases to three attacks at 11th level, and to 4 attacks at 17th level.

Special[edit]

Additionally, this cantrip has a special interaction - When you Ready an Action to cast this spell on a creature's metallic weapon in response to that creature making a melee attack, you grant the target of that creature's attack a +1d4 bonus to their AC against that attack.
