BOOM!

The path ahead was blocked by a bloated purple bubble of rotting flesh held up by bony spines, a skull face staring grimly from its front as it drifts towards you.

Born of a foul ritual involving dropping a skull and ribs into the rotted dregs of a corpse, the dreg mine is an unliving weapon designed to protect necromantic keeps and tombs. The dreg mine is essentially a floating sea mine made of undead flesh and bone, with a skull face plastered on one side. It has one purpose: to die, and take you with it.

Dreg mines are eerily silent, but are able of releasing a loud low moan when they desire.

Combat[edit]

Dreg mines float listlessly until they spot a creature, and begin to drift towards it seeking to touch it, or to block paths to force creatures to touch it. Upon entering a creatures space or vice versa, or taking the appropriate damage, it will explode. It can also be directed to moan instead of immediately detonating as a form of alert system for necromancers involved, but rarely has the implication to do so on its own.

Detonate (Ex): Upon entering an opponents square, having their square entered, or by being brought to 0 hp by most forms of damage the dreg mine explodes, killing it and releasing a 10 ft burst from its body that deals 4d8+4 points of negative energy damage, with a DC 15 Reflex save for half. Those who failed the saving throw are also entangled and rendered vulnerable to negative energy for 1 minute, or until they can wash off the corpse goo with water or another cleaning source as a standard action. Most things are able to detonate the dreg mine, but if killed by an effect that does not deal hp damage, or killed by cold damage or positive energy damage, the dreg mine does not explode and merely disintegrates into harmless, if foul, goo. The save DC is Wisdom based.

Float (Ex): A dreg mine's body is naturally buoyant. This buoyancy allows it to fly at a speed of 10 feet (perfect maneuverability). This buoyancy also grants it a permanent feather fall effect with personal range.

Moan (Ex): As a standard action a dreg mine may release a deep loud moan. Treat this as the audible trigger to an alarm spell. It will often attract the attention of other dreg mines in the area. The moan is unnerving, and creatures within 60 ft must make a DC 15 Will save or become shaken for 1 minute. Shaken from this effect does not stack with other fear effects. This is a mind-affecting fear effect, and the save is Wisdom based.

Elemental Variants[edit]

Some dreg mines are infused with elemental properties, though they remain undead. These dreg mines deal elemental damage with their detonate (acid, cold, electricity, or fire) or damage one sized smaller for sonic and force. They are also immune to their respective element, and instill vulnerability of their respective element.
