Drimdoldrum[edit]

This lightly gnarled ashwood staff is pale as if bleached from sunlight, making it appear at first glance to be made of old bone. Its lower third is dirty, covered in a bit of brown mud and green algae. Despite its dry appearance, the staff is damp to the touch, and upon touching it does its power become apparent.

While some scholars argue that the name of the staff is properly written as "Drim Dol Drum", there hasn't been enough gathered evidence to support this given that the culture the staff originated from is lost to history.

The primary power of the staff is to change the land into swampland. When planted firmly into the ground, Drimdoldrum begins working its powerful terrain-altering magic. This causes the ground to retain water and become muddy. Marsh plants begin to grow and trees warp and become scraggly until the area around the staff is transformed into a thick, lush, healthy swamp, teeming with life. Every hour the staff stays planted, the swamp grows another 10 feet in radius. The staff can create a maximum of a 9 mile radius of swampland around itself, taking 198 days to do so if not moved. If removed, the terrain may change naturally over time. Drimdoldrum cannot alter the temperature of the region, but it can create clouds and rain to nourish its swamp.

Drimdoldrum is single-mindedly intelligent and capable of communicating telepathically with anyone touching it, though only ever communicating in third-person, sounding like a gentle chorus in the minds of those daring enough to make contact with it. It additionally has several powers under its own control.

Three times per day, it can use hold person (caster level 20th, save DC 17).

Three times per day when held, it may duplicate any spell of 5th level or lower, provided that spell helps it achieve its goal of spreading, strengthening and maintaining swamps. It refers to these magical effects as "swamp blessings" and "swamp wishes". It has an effective +4 ability modifier and a caster level of 20th for these spells.

Additionally, as a "swamp blessing" it can grant its holder a form more fitting for a swamp, usually to the bearer's horror and detriment (as a polymorphing effect). Break enchantment or stronger is needed to restore a creature so altered by Drimdoldrum.
