This broad shouldered jade statue of a humanoid has large chunky fists and no head. From its bare shoulders four glowing towers rise up, crackling with energy.
Carved out of empyrean jade, these golems were used to combat certain wizards holed up in invulnerable fortresses of force. They are also employed by some as scouts to explore dangerous areas, for their powerful shielding abilities permit them to endure very dangerous and hostile events.
Empyrean Jade Golems are 9 feet tall and weigh about 3000 lbs. In spite of a lack of head, it sees and hears normally.
The empyrean jade golem is straightfoward, attacking with its slams and striking a forceful blow at the end of its attack routine in order to knock back opponents and prevent a full attack. It relies on its shields to protect it, changing its shield to match the last damage types it took. This can be abused, however, as it chooses the last damage types and not the most powerful damage types it took last round. This lets some attack with an alchemist fire in one round, its shields trained to become immune to fire, and then striking with a powerful bludgeoning blow the next round.
Forceful Blow (Ex): An empyrean jade golem is capable or releasing bursts of raw magic from its fists like a shotgun on impact. It deals an extra 4d6 magical damage on its natural attacks, and may start a bull rush part of the action. Alternatively it may make a touch attack and bull rush without provoking. Either way, the empyrean jade golem does not follow the creature with the bull rush. On a critical hit, the creature is rendered prone at the end of the bull rush.
The magic energy released is 1d6 dice per three HD of the golem. This energy destroys force effects, as per disintegrate.
Immunity to Magic (Ex): An empyrean jade golem is immune to any spell or spell-like ability that allows spell resistance. In addition, certain spells and effects function differently against the creature, as noted below.
A mage armor spell confuses its shielding systems, locking one of the shield's current type in place and making it unable to be changed for the duration of mage armor.
A disintegrate spell deals no damage, but strips the immunity from one of the shields for 1 round.
Quad Shields (Ex): Four powerful shields surround the empyrean jade golem, appearing as barely visible hexagonal barriers of colored light and generated by its glowing towers. It gains four sets of temporary hp for each shield, 91 hp each, for a total hp total (including the hp of the body) of 465. Each shield grants immunity to one damage type, such as bludgeoning, piercing, slashing, acid, cold, electric, fire, sonic, or force. The only damage type it cannot defend against is untyped damage, such as a warlock's eldritch blast. Each round as a swift action it can change one or more of its shield to a different damage type, gaining immunity to that form of damage. It typically is immune to the last four damage types that was able to harm it. If encounting a random empyrean jade golem, roll randomly to see what it starts out immune to.
Each shield and its subsequent immunity has a different subtle color, and immunities can be determined with a Knowledge Engineering or Spellcraft check, DC 30, plus another color from the shield for each +5 over the DC.
When taking damage, damage is transfered to any shield of the golem's choice, and it usually spreads out the damage evenly. A creature can target a specific shield by taking -4 on their attack roll, which denies it the ability to determine where the damage goes. Every time it loses a shield, it loses 1 point of deflection to AC.
As long as at least 3 shields are up, it cannot be flanked or staggered.
As long as at least 2 shields are up, it benefits from a constant entropic shield.
An empyrean jade golem’s body must be carved from a block of empyrean jade weighing at least 3000 lbs, mixed with various vaporized herbs and essences while the structure is carved. Creating the body requires a DC 20 Craft (stonemasonry) check.
