Foo-Inu[edit]

Leonine-headed spiritfolk which have an affinity with stone and a predisposition for protection.

Personality[edit]

Loyal, stalwart, and even stubborn, all these are descriptives of foo-inus, as they value, in their culture, fidelity and honor above all things. They are relentless pursuers of their ideals and sworn protectors and advisors. They usually guard temples or other important places and locations, or act as bodyguards for important people. Most of them cultivate honor and virtues. They are however more hot-headed than they might appear and many start a path of elightnenment to correct this part of their personality.

Physical Description[edit]

Similar to muscular humans, but with a kind of rocky appeareance, they have lion-like heads, similar to those of a komainu, a mythical beast said to protect holy places. Their limbs are dog-like, with small claws, and they have a short tail. Their skin is varied in colour: from grey to white, black, brass, gold, red, light blue and jade green, always with a stony texture.

They tend to wear elegant, yet practical, clothes, usually robes or long shirts with tight trousers.

Relations[edit]

Reliable and honorbound, they are appreciated by those that respect their same values. They are less accepted by more individualistic or chaotic people.

Alignment[edit]

Mostly lawful, a majority of them also good, but other alignments are present too, albeit in a smaller part of the population.

Lands[edit]

They don't have any land of their own, but settle among other races that employ them as guardians, or live in hermitage on unaccessable mountains.

Religion[edit]

They honor ancestors and worship gods of honor, valor and protection.

Language[edit]

They speak Common and may choose among Aklo or Celestial.

Names[edit]

They have short, simple names, that remind of strength and endurance.

Racial Traits[edit]

  • Humanoid (Anthro, Spiritfolk): They are leonine humanoids with strong ties with magical creatures know as komainu.
  • Medium: As a Medium creature, a foo-inu has no special bonuses or penalties due to its size.
  • Foo-Inu base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Low-Light Vision: A foo-inu can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
  • Stalwart Defender: Foo-Inus gain the Sworn Bodyguard feat for free but they can select their charge with a swift action and change it the same way, instead of having a fixed one, and they can select the same individual multiple times per day. They gain a +2 morale bonus to AC and saves anytime they successfully use the feat's ability on their current charge. They also gain a +2 racial bonus to Listen, Sense Motive and Spot checks, and against mind-affecting effects
  • Mystic Guard (Su): Once per day, as a move action, the may replicate the effects of any protection spell, using their HD as caster level. While Mystic Guard is active, if they don't move from their position, they gain a +2 to Strength and +2 to Constitution. This bonus ends as they move away from their starting position and returns after the next turn they stay put (from the round following this one).
  • Statue Form (Ex): Foo-Inus may use a swift or immediate action to harden themselves into a statue form. They become similar to lion-dogs in a sitting pose. This effect is similar to the statue spell and the statue has the hp of the foo-inu and hardness equal to three times its HD. They perceive what happens to the statue and the flowing of time and may decide to come back in flesh within a minute, or as a full round action, if they accept to suffer non-lehtal damage equal to three times their HD. The same effect takes place whenever they sleep or fall unconscious, except that they may transform back only under conditions that would allow them to regain consciousness or wake up (such as sleeping for 8 hours). They still need to transform back in flesh form in the same ways presented above. If they take the Petrified in Death feat (they automatically qualify for it), the stone form they assume on death has the same statistics presented here.
  • Natural Armor (Ex): Foo-Inus have a +1 natural armor bonus to their AC.
  • Automatic Languages: Common, Aklo or Celestial
  • Bonus Languages: Any
  • Favored Class: Fighter
  • Level Adjustment: +0
  • Effective Character Level: 1
