This technique is as basic as it gets; ice is heavy and it is devastating if you bring it down on an opponent. Hold your spear high to avoid any loss in accuracy.
As you initiate this maneuver you coat your weapon in ice, creating a heavy chunk of ice at its damaging extremity. You then immediately make an attack with your weapon with a -2 penalty to hit. If your weapon doesn't threaten adjacent opponents, such as a reach weapon it threatens them for this attack. If the attack hits, it deals half bludgeoning half cold damage instead of its normal damage type and deals damage as if the weapon was one size category larger. Once the attack is resolved the chunk of ice breaks off.
If used alongside a dire winter discipline weapon, the attack is made with a +2 bonus to hit instead of a -2 penalty.
