My words are power, for I define the world.

A rare breed of dragon driven my knowledge, they are closely linked not with arcane magic but the power of truespeaking. Their scales have the texture of gnarled parchment or paper mache petrified into off-white stone, and marked with strange black markings and symbols. It is said that if one could read and translate all of the runes on the dragon's scales, one can determine the dragon's own truename, or some even greater secret. Their heads are crowned with curved, shotel-like horns that turn inward, a ridge of spines down their back, and four thin and slender wings which seem almost more insectile than like a bat. Their tail splits into three at the tip, and they have three tongues within their expansive mouths which are capable of distorting and expanding to great size. Their eyes are light gray, which fade into blank white spheres as they age. Older lexicon dragons also turn darker with age as the symbols begin to overtake their off-white scale coloration.

Lexicon dragons covet knowledge, and they can often be found in the ruins of civilization taking the knowledge for themselves, claiming libraries as lairs, and sending their minions off to collect more exotic and strange knowledge. As such they become very knowledgeable about many subjects, but rarely give this knowledge up freely without appropriate recompense. They also do not like to be interrupted in their studies, so care must be taken to approach without surprise.

Combat[edit]

Lexicon dragons have four wings which give them superior maneuverability to their dragon kin. As a result they are usually found fighting from the air, dodging between columns and buildings for cover, using Flyby Attack, and shouting at their opponents with their breath weapons and utterances. They usually have the advantage in hit dice, and thus they use the benefits of the Law of Chorus to strike as many targets as they can with their utterances. In melee combat they are as competent as any dragon, but their wings are to weak and thus they do not gain wing attacks, and instead gain a superior tail slap.

Breath Weapon (Su)

Lexicon dragons have two types of breath weapon, a cone of sonic damage and a cone of kinetic force. The sonic damage has a Fortitude save for half instead of Reflex, and deafens creatures for 1d6 rounds on a failed save. Creatures within the cone of kinetic force must make a Fortitude save (stability applies) or be thrown back to the extent of the cone. On a successful save they are only moved 5 ft. This forced movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

Expanded Truespeech

A young or older lexicon dragon gains the Expanded Truespeech ability of a truenamer.

Improved Tail Slap

A juvenile or older lexicon dragon can strike up to three different targets with a single tail slap attack.

Power Word (Resistance, Immunity, and Echo)

A wyrmling or older lexicon dragon gains the Power Word Resistance ability of a truenamer.

When they become juvenile or older, they gain the Power Word Immunity ability. When they become a mature adult or older, they gain the Power Word Echo ability.

Spell-Like Abilities (Sp)

1/day-power word blind (old or older), power word deafenRotD (juvenile or older), power word disableRotD (adult or older), power word kill (great wyrm), power word painRotD (very young or older), power word stun (ancient or older).

Tongues (Su)

The wrymling or older lexicon dragon is always under the effect of comprehend languages and tongues.

True Nickname (Awareness, Scrying, and Teleport)

A young adult or older lexicon dragon gains the True Nickname (Awareness) ability of a truenamer.

When they become very old or older, they gain the True Nickname (Scrying) ability. When they become a wyrm or older, they gain the True Nickname (Teleport) ability.

Skills

Climb, Decipher Script, Forgery, Speak Language, and Truespeak are considered class skills for lexicon dragons. A lexicon dragon can always choose to take 10 on Climb checks, even if rushed or threatened.
