A lieben homunculus is an anthroparian creature often created to serve as a servant or companion. They are formed, body and mind, by their creators, sharing the same alignment, basic nature and basic worldly knowledge as well as knowing a single language of its creator's choice. A lieben homunculus’s creator determines its precise features, but the recipe and technique here result in one of basic humanoid form.
The lieben homunculus is otherwise not bound to its creator in any way, becoming an independent creature with its own goals and motivations as it develops. As imperfect creatures, they are a passing substitute for people, as lieben homunculi are sterile and unable to reproduce, but otherwise have no known age limit.
Homunculi flail their limbs wildly and often ineffectually as a last resort of defense, preferring to flee than fight. Their masters occasionally arm them with basic implements as they are proficient with simple weapons.
Appetite: A lieben homunculus is inefficient at digesting, requiring twice as much food and water as a creature its size.
Donor Traits: Lieben homunculi are unique creatures, taking after, in some ways, the traits of those who donated to their creation. They gain a +4 bonus to an ability score of the creator's choice, so long as that ability score then does not exceed that of the material donor's same ability score (including any inherent bonus but not enhancement). This bonus is not applied in the stat block above. Additionally, the homunculus may gain a racial subtype from one of its material donors at the creator's choice.
A lieben homunculus is shaped from a mixture of clay, ectoplasm, fat, wax, pulp, an unfertilized egg, bone dust, sea water, one application of unguent of timelessness, alchemical reagents and one pint of blood or body fluid from one or several donors. The combined materials cost 50 gp. The creator may assemble the body or hire someone else to make it. Creating the body requires a DC 12 Craft (sculpting) check or a DC 12 Craft (pottery) check.
After the body is sculpted, it is animated through a magical ritual. The crafting of the creature’s body and the ritual can be performed together.
A lieben homunculus can be created at Medium size, but this adds +1,000 gp to the cost to create. This cost can be later added, increasing the creature's size, though another ritual must be performed. This adjusts its Strength by +4 and its Dexterity by –2.
Lieben Homunculus Manuals exist, similar in function to golem manuals, and cost 500 gp. These books allow a creator to use the book in place of needing the above prerequisite feats, spells and experience, as they are provided by the manual. Additionally, the manual treats the reader's caster level as one level higher for the purpose of crafting the lieben homunculus. After reading the book and following its instructions, the manual's imbued magic is released and enters to homunculus during the ritual. The book's writing is burnt out and destroyed, expending it in the process.
