Magic Blooded, Spanambula Variant[edit]

An adaptation of the template from Dragon Magazine that isn't a straight-up LA 0 power boost.

Even in a world of magic, some creatures are born with a little extra power surging through their bodies, making them a little more imposing, a little more impressive, or making their innate magic a little more powerful. However, so much magic potential in the body causes problems as well.

Creating a Magic Blooded[edit]

Magic-Blooded is an inherited template that can be applied to any humanoid or monstrous humanoid creature.

Size and Type[edit]

The base creature's size and type remain unchanged.

Hit Dice[edit]

Magic-Blooded creatures bodies tend to be weaker than their counterparts, they gain 1 fewer hit point per HD than normal, to a minimum of 1.

Special Qualities[edit]

Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): At-will: detect magic, obedient light. 3/day: prismatic point

Innate Shield (Su): Although a magic-Blooded creature may be physically weaker, they possess a kind of inner strength which helps shrug off damage with sheer chutzpah. They possess 1 temporary hit point for every 2HD they possess, which are refreshed automatically every round at the start of their turn. This ability functions only if the creature can be confident in it's own abilities. A Magic-Blooded creature loses their Innate Shield when under the influence of any fear effect, have a morale penalty greater than -1, or are below 25% of their maximum HP.

Once per day as an immediate action, a magic-blooded creature can boost their Innate Shield to double it's normal strength. If the extra temp HP is unused, the creature's Innate Shield returns to it's normal strength at the beginning of it's next turn. This source of temp HP does not stack with any other source of temporary hit points.

Abilities[edit]

+2 Charisma, -2 Wisdom, -2 to one physical ability score. The unusually heavy concentration of magic in the blood tends to make creatures impulsive, as well as inhibiting normal biological growth in unpredictable ways.

Skills[edit]

+2 Knowledge (arcana), +2 Spellcraft, Both usable untrained. Magic-Blooded creatures intuitively grasp matters related to the arcane.

Alignment[edit]

Any, but the surge of magic in their bodies often gives a magic-blooded creature a chaotic outlook if it possesses Intelligence.
