Using your reaction, you capitalize on harm done to one or more living creatures in order to restore your own essence. Each damaged creature that is an undead or a construct cannot be targeted by this spell.
For each creature targeted by this spell, to a maximum of 3, you regain hit points equal to the amount of damage dealt to each target. The maximum number of hit points you can regain from each target cannot exceed 15 + your spellcasting ability modifier, nor can it exceed the amount of damage the creature took from the triggering effect.
- For example, the your party is fighting a group of bandits, and as a Cha 18 Sorcerer, you just cast a Fireball that dealt 37 points of damage to 5 of the bandits. You could cast this spell at 3rd level to regain 19 hit points from 3 of the bandits, for a total of 57 hit points. However, if cast from a 5th-level spell slot, you could regain hit points from all 5 of the bandits, for a total of 95 hit points.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, you can regain hit points from one additional creature for each spell slot level above 3rd.
