This is not perfectly balanced yet, as Metamagic feats aren't perfectly balanced, and this idea is still in progress. So you have been warned - This could potentially break your games.


Metamagic Spells And Metapsionic Powers[edit]

Metamagic and metapsionic feats are generally considered bad, in their base forms; They're only really good when you can reduce their cost and cheese them to death, with things like metamagic rods, Incantrix, Divine Metamagic, and so forth. I randomly woke up with an idea to fix that - Just turn the feats into spells and powers that can be learned and cast/manifested, which will then affect the next spell you cast/power you manifest, with no adjustment to the spell's level or power's PP cost, as these have already been paid using the lower-level spell slot or power point cost (Albeit Metapsionic Feats will effectively cost only 1 power point less this way).

This variant rule removes normal Metamagic and Metapsionic feats from the game, and replaces them with the appropriate spells and powers. While these are listed under Sorcerer/Wizard, Psion, Warlock and Gate Knight (Because of the way the wiki works), they are, in fact, universal to all spellcasters, manifesters, and so forth, unless specified otherwise; If they have the ability to learn and use spells, powers, invocations or sacrifices, these are available to them to learn.

Unless stated otherwise, Metamagic spells and powers cannot be used on other metamagic spells and powers - So no using Arcana Extendo to Extend an Arcana Maximus. Unless stated otherwise, an individual can only be affected by one meta-effect at a time - So they could not be subject to Arcana Accendo and Intrusive Mind at the same time, nor could they be affected by Arcana Silentium and Arcana Sedo at the same time.

Heighten Spell is redundant as a base concept; With this variant rule, A spell can be prepared in or cast from a spell slot of a higher level than the minimum spell slot level needed to cast it, automatically gaining the benefits of being Heightened to the level of the spell slot it is cast from.

Arcana Apto
Universal [Metamagic]

Duration: 1 Minute or until dispelled (D)
Saving Throw: Will negates (Harmless)
Spell Resistance: No

The touched target's next spell, if it deals fire, cold, acid, electricity or sonic damage, will instead deal a different type of damage, chosen from among the aforementioned five types, by Arcana Apto's caster.

The touched target's next spell, if its duration is not Concentration, Instantaneous or Permanent, will have its duration doubled.



Arcana Concelo

The touched target's next spell, if they are a Bard or otherwise have access to Bardic Music or a similar ability, will be cast as a song, mingling verbal and somatic components into its music and performances so that others don't catch your target in the act of casting a spell. Like a silent, stilled spell, a disguised spell can’t be identified through Spellcraft. Their performance is obvious to everyone in the vicinity, but the fact that they are casting a spell isn’t. Unless the spell visibly emanates from your target, or observers have some other means of determining its source, onlookers will have no way of knowing where the effect came from.



Arcana Amplifico

The touched target's next spell will have all of its numeric variable effects increased by 50%, such as randomly-determined damage, number of targets, or duration, but not saving throws or opposed checks.



Arcana Jactus

The touched target's next spell will be Repeated, cast again automatically on their next round of actions after the initial casting. No matter where the caster is at the time of the second casting, the secondary spell originates from the same location and affects the same area as the primary spell. If the repeated spell designates a target, the secondary spell retargets the same target if the target is within 30 feet of its original position; otherwise the secondary spell fails to go off.

The touched target's next spell will have double its normal effect, as if they were casting it twice simultaneously on the same area or targets. Any variables in the spell (such as duration, number of targets, and so on) are the same for both of the resulting spells. The target experiences all the effects of both spells individually and receives a saving throw (if applicable) for each. In some cases, such as a twinned Charm, failing both saving throws results in redundant effects (although, in this example, any ally of the target would have to succeed on two dispel attempts to free the target from the charm effect).

The touched target's next spell, if its "per caster level" effects are capped (Such as Fireball's growth being capped at CL 10), that cap is removed for this casting. This means a 20th-level Wizard could cast a Fireball that deals 20d6 damage, a 20th-level Cleric could cast a Cure Moderate Wounds that heals that heals 2d8+20 health, and so forth.

The touched target's next spell, if it is eligible, lasts for 24 hours. Only spells of personal or fixed range, with a duration longer than instantaneous, whose effects aren't discharged when triggered, can be affected. You don't need to concentrate on spell such as Detect Magic in order to detect the mere presence or absence of the things detected, but must still concentrate as normal to gain additional information.



Arcana Invalesco

The touched target's next spell has all of its variable, numeric effects, such as damage, number of targets, or duration, maximized and doubled. Thus if this spell was used on a 10th-level caster who then cast a Fireball, instead of dealing 10d6 damage, the Fireball would deal 120 damage. This cannot be combined with the effects of Arcana Amplifico, Arcana Maximus, or any other effect that affects the spell's variable numeric effects.
