Nightmare Inducing Chains

As you manifest this power, you create wires or chains made of psionic energy; the chains whirl around you, blocking incoming attacks for as long as you concentrate, granting you the benefits of cover.

The true power of the nightmare inducing chains, however, comes from its effect on living creatures. As a standard action, the psion/mindbreaker may make a ranged touch attack within 100 feet. If the attack is a hit, the creature is allowed a Reflex save to negate its incoming doom, taking 15d6 slashing damage as a consequence of being grazed by the chains if it succeeds. If the reflex save is a failure, the creature does not take damage; instead, the chains ensnare him, holding tight him by his legs, arms, head, and torso.

A creature ensnared this way is semiconcious, entangled, and held down, and becomes susceptible to the psion/mindbreaker's powers for as long as it is ensared; additionally, any action the creature attempts to take (even purely mental actions) have 50% chance of failure. Only one creature can be ensnared this way at a time. Releasing a creature is a move action and leaves it deeply traumatized from its nightmarish visions; it stays semiconcious permanently, although it is allowed a Will save every day to regain full consciousness.

As a standard action, the psion/mindbreaker may command the chains to tear an ensnared creature apart, pulling it and tearing its limbs off its body. This kills an ensnared creature instantly with no saving throw allowed (unless the creature can live without limbs, such as a creature with regeneration; even then, it takes penalties as if it was freed). Doing so frees the chains to be used on other creatures.

Nightmare inducing chains is useful only against creatures within one size category of you.

Augment: For every 2 additional power points you spend, this power can affect a target one size category larger or smaller.

For every 2 power points you spend, the DC increases by +1.
