Something was wrong. A newly hatched uplifted was supposed to come from the pod, but as the ectoplasmic shell broke there was a low rumble which sounded like a howling wind. It grew to deafening degree as a tornado of screaming flesh arose from the pod...
Sometimes the creation process to make an uplifted goes horribly terribly wrong. No one knows what causes the appearance of a provolvic horror, but it seems to occur when a previously psionic creature is uplifted. Their psionic powers fly out of control, transforming them into a horrible beast. However it also gives credence to a dark rumor about the graha and their nature. The graha's original appearance and civilization is unknown. Most assume them to be humanoid, as the uplifted hosts they take resemble the classic "gray" alien. But others say that they lived in a time before the universe was, a time of Lovecraftian nightmares and gibbering terrors, and that the grehe themselves are nightmares made flesh. The provolvic horror is simply their true forms manifesting and going wild, unable to handle this reality and its rules.
A provolvic horror is the shriveled humanoid body of an uplifted whose head sprouts into only what can be called a "meat tornado" made of constantly swirling array of half melted screaming faces and bits of strange alien metal, while their useless body dangles below them. It is in constant movement and growth but seems to vanish away at its top as it passes through other dimensions. Its "funnel" is a giant lamprey-like maw of rotating teeth and blades. The creature constantly screams, either in the pain of its many faces or the sucking sound of wind the funnel maw produces. Its uncertain which dimension the provolvic horror seems to pass through, but many suspect the far realm.
In any case, graha and mortals alike seek to end the threat of a created provolvic horror for the thing, while barely intelligent, is possessed of a fury and hunger unmatched and a threat to all intelligent beasts.
Provolvic horrors scream constantly, and do not speak. Yet two or more horrors seem to communicate telepathically and plan with their cunning instincts.
A provolvic horror is hostile to all normal life, but its rage is not without tactics. It uses its ability to move through walls to fly by, attack, and fly back into the safety of walls all while driving its targets insane and raining psionic powers upon them. They know, and fear, starmetal for its ability to bypass their regeneration. They seem to prey on psionic creatures over all others, as they can be converted via provolvic uplifting.
Extradimensional Movement (Su): Provolvic horrors are capable of passing through solid matter by phasing in and out of reality. They consider solid matter difficult terrain, and are incapable of attacking through solid matter even if they are capable of seeing through it. They also possess a 50% miss chance against attacks of opportunity provoked by movement as they distort through time and space.
Howling Whirl (Su): Provolvic horrors are constantly surrounded by a screaming howling wind from their tornado-like head, a scream which can be heard up to a mile away. Those in 60 ft of the creature must make DC 23 Will saves or become confused for 1d4 rounds. A successful save renders a creature immune to this particular horror's aura for 24 hours. In addition long term exposure is bad for the mind. All beings (other than other provolvic horrors) that hear the creature's howling for an hour or longer must save against insanity instead. A successful save against the aura does not grant immunity to the more long term insanity effect. Psionic creatures take a -4 penalty to their saving throws. The save DC is Charisma based. Due to the screams, the creature takes a -8 penalty on Move Silently checks.
Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a provolvic horror must hit with a bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. While grappled by its mouth, the provolvic horror is not considered grappled itself.
Mind Rend (Ps): Provolvic horrors can rip apart a creature's psyche. As a standard action a provolvic horror can target a creature in 60 ft and force them to make a DC 23 Will save or take 1d10 points of either Int, Wis, or Cha damage (its choice), save negates. The save DC is Charisma based.
Provolvic Uplifting (Su): Provolvic horrors are capable of producing more of their kind by hunting psionic beings. If a psionic creature is killed by its bite attack or while grappled by its mouth, the psionic creature is reduced to a toxic slurry and consumed. After 24 hours the provolvic horror "gives birth", vomiting up an egg which bursts into a new provolvic horror. For this reason, provolvic horrors target psionic creatures over all others.
Regeneration (Ex): Provolvic horrors regeneration is bypassed by force damage and by starmetalCW. Starmetal in particular seems to bother them just by its presence and they go out of their way to avoid it.
Powers: A provolic horror manifests powers as a 16th-level wilder, including the ability to wild surge and experience psychic enervation.
