Simple Math Rage

Barbarians don’t have time for lots of math. This is a variant to the rage mechanics to make its effects easier to implement, but it also may be a power buff to Rage as a side effect.

Class: Barbarian

Prerequisites: None

Level: 1, 4, 8, 11, 12, 16, 17, 20

Replaces: Rage’s bonus to Strength and Constitution

Benefit: When you enter a Rage, you gain the following benefits for a number of rounds equal to 5 + your Constitution modifier:

  • +3 bonus to melee attack rolls and melee damage rolls.
  • +50 lb. carry weight to all carrying capacities.
  • +2 morale bonus to Will saves
  • -2 Penalty to Armor Class
  • Temporary HP equal to 2 x Barbarian class level
  • +2 bonus to Fortitude saves, Strength-based skill checks and ability checks, and Constitution-based ability checks.

In some instances, a barbarian may have acquired a version of rage where Dexterity is increased instead of Strength. If this would be the case, apply the following changes:

  • Remove the bonus to melee Attack rolls and melee damage rolls.
  • Remove the -2 Penalty to Armor Class.
  • Remove the bonus to Strength-based checks.
  • Remove the improvements to carrying capacity.
  • Apply a +2 bonus to any ranged attack roll and any attack roll with a light weapon or one-handed weapon.
  • Apply a +2 bonus to Initiative checks and Reflex saves.
  • Apply a +2 bonus to Dexterity based skill and ability checks.

The restrictions to normal rages still apply in all cases:

  • You cannot make any skill checks modified by Dexterity, Intelligence, or Charisma, except for Balance, Escape Artist, Intimidate, and Ride (and Tumble if Dexterity is modified instead of Strength).
  • You cannot make Concentration checks, or any other checks that in general require patience or concentration.
  • You cannot use any metamagic feats, Combat Expertise, or Item Creation feats.
  • You cannot cast spells, manifest powers, use spell-like abilities, or use supernatural abilities.
  • You cannot use command words, spell triggers, or spell completion to activate or use magic or psionic items.

When your rage ends, you become fatigued for the rest of the encounter.

Greater Rage

The Greater Rage class feature instead increases the bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, Fortitude saves, Strength/Dexterity checks, and Constitution checks by +1. Carry weight capacities are increased by 100 pounds instead of 50 pounds. The morale bonus on will saves increases to +3. The temporary hit points during a rage increase to 3 x barbarian level. Duration of the rage increases by 1 round.

Tireless Rage

Tireless Rage is unchanged.

Mighty Rage

+100 lb to carrying capacities. Improve bonuses to Strength/Dexterity based checks, Constitution checks, and Fortitude saves by another +1. Bonus to attack rolls increases by +1. Bonus to damage rolls increases by +2. Will save morale bonus increases by +1. Duration increases by 1 more round. Temporary HP during a rage increases to 4 x barbarian level.

Bonuses from Mighty Rage stack with Greater Rage (except for the temporary hit points).
