Detailed Description

This archer is well into middle age, and has perhaps a day and a half of a beard. He looks to be a huntsman and has skin that has tanned a dozen times over and taken on that permanent darker hue. His dark hair is cut short to stay out of his eyes, the right one of which is an obvious mechanical replacement and shines slightly with a blue glow to match his other eye. His right arm is similarly obviously mechanical and the mechanical influence continues over his shoulder. He is covered in dark brown leather, a large coat that leaves his arms open and has a low collar. On his left shoulder a large mechanical contraption shows, a quiver that always keeps an arrow in one place for his arm to reach to, slotting the next arrow in line into that place as he draws the current one forth. His bow is a massive longbow has two strange boxes upon it, one above the hand grip and one below. At the level of the hand grip is a hand guard that fits over the arm and looks like it does something mechanically.

DM Notes

The boxes on the longbow are dart launchers and the hand guard reloads them. Mechanically, these do absolutely nothing. It's merely fluff to make his Covering Fire ability sound cool as you describe the boxes opening and unleashing a hail of darts. Roll some dice secretly if you want them to think they could actually get hit by this.

Sagittarius is the alias of one of Ophiuchus' twelve zodiac themed captains. Unlike the others he does not usually run with a retinue, relying on his stealth and range to protect himself, using his dart launchers in case someone gets close. He is in one of the Northern Front units, so he has less combat experience than the Southern Front captains.

History wise, he was a peasant, huntsman, woodsman, ext. With a big sense of repaying his debts. When a traveling nobleman stole his daughter for his bride, Sagittarius attempted to hunt the man down. He was caught, mistook for a thief, and had his eye burned out, and arm cut off. Ophiuchus found this talented huntsman and gave him a second chance at the hunt, augmented with the power of steel and magic. Sagittarius has yet to find this nobleman, and serves in Ophiuchus' forces until he can find him. He is a loyal servant who does not particularly care for the rightness or wrongness of Ophiuchus' cause.

Notes

• This NPC has had the Spellborg template applied to it.
• This character was originally designed as a foe for an unoptimized party. If you are dealing with a decently high balance point party, swap out the dump feat Sharp-Shooting for the homebrew feat of your choice that lets him use Dex to damage with that longbow. Marksman is a good one.
