Made by a jolly red wizard long, long ago, a Santa Engine uses the happiness generated in gift-giving to fabricate raw materials. Such devices have mythic significance to the christmas elf race.

A large and colorful device with a tremendous number of seemingly pointless bells and whistles, a Santa Engine has a hole on the top, and a large slot in the front. With a little bit of good-will and love in the heart, anything put into the top of the Santa Engine with be converted into an equal monetary value of whatever raw materials are desired by the person who put it in (the Santa Engine cannot read the intentions of mindless creatures, and does not convert materials placed in the device by mindless creatures or natural events).

While this ability is very useful, the true power of Santa Engine has to do with how its materials are used. If the raw materials produced by the machine are crafted into a non-violent item, if that item is given freely to someone else, and that person enjoys the gift, then the next time the giver or the crafter go near to the Santa Engine, the device will produce the raw material components needed to craft that item again, seemingly out of thin air.

Most christmas elves believe that there is great power in giving freely, and that the device runs off of the spare happiness emanated from the creature which received the gift.
