The enhanced magical spectroberyl gemstone is often socketed in a ring or hung from a necklace. An electrum fitting is traditional.
Under non-magical light, the gem remains in its base hue (typically green or blue), but under magical light, the gem shifts hues (typically magenta, red or purple). Against magical light generated by illusions, an opposed caster level check is required (using the ring's caster level opposed by the effect's caster level). On a failure, the ring gives no magical indication from this effect.
The gem remains in its base hue when not worn on a body slot, regardless of magical light exposure.
