Since good casting classes are generally SAD already, changing the casting stat can't really be a big enough boost by itself for Very High balance. Adding a secondary benefit makes a nice touch where which ability score you choose still matters in an aesthetically pleasing way.

There are a few problems, though:

"one step" could do with some definition, short should be described too (do you mean Close, or 50' +5'/level?), Manycast is probably too powerful, and Tactical Casting needs a unit or units.

Strength probably shouldn't be an option, because of size category shenanigans.

Just changing the ability score that your class feature is based on is powerful enough, and has quite a strategic bonus that adding a rider onto it seems silly to me. But the riders aren't bad, and some will probably disagree with me.

Good overall, though as another commented, the option should be present for 1st level chosen of a prestige class

Good, despite not allowing for a muscle wizard. Otherwise a nice option

What if my touch spells don't normally deal damage?[edit]

What happens then? I can imagine some hilarious results if you still deal damage with non-damaging touch range spells, so I wanted to clarify that. - MisterSinister 06:46, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

An idea[edit]

You restricted this feat to first level only, but wouldn't it be better to allow taking it anytime a character gains the first level in a new class, to allow it to works when multiclassing and with prestige classes?

I would allow it for a prestige class certainly, I did not specify base class. As far as prerequisites, it is just kind of tricky to write. You don't need level in the class to take the feat, so you could nab it at 1st level for a class you plan on taking later. I would also encourage the GM to lift the 1st level only restriction in some cases, such as taking a class later. --Leziad (talk) 22:10, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Nice, I like that you are flexible on these details (silly me, I forgot to sign) --The bluez in the dungeon (talk) 22:42, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
