This spell transforms the subject’s tongue into a large and deadly snake, but the attitude of the serpent on whether it is used on an ally (which can include the caster) or an enemy. If the target is the caster or one of their allies, the snake offers them a bite attack (usable as a swift action) with reach equal to their normal reach plus 5 additional feet and dealing damage based on their size (1d8 for a Medium creature). In addition, the subject gains the snake's vision, prevented them from being flanked while the spell is active.
By contrast, an opponent targeted is entitled to a Fortitude save to resist the transformation. Should they fail, they become entangled by a hostile serpent that attacks them each round. Every round thereafter, they are entitled to another save against the entanglement effect, but the snake remains for the duration of the spell and will attack them each round.
A creature whose tongue has been transformed may not speak (and thus perform any actions that require speech) unless the snake is friendly to them, in which case the snake speaks for them.
Regardless of whom the spell targets, the snake may bite only once per round with a base attack bonus equal to the target’s BAB or the caster’s level, whichever is higher. In addition, the snake deals the effect of a poison spell with each successful bite attack.
